Firstly, to "crush on" someone is to love them, or believe that you do, usually without their knowledge or without reciprocation.

Secondly, unless you are reading a novel from the section aimed primarily at younger teenagers, you will likely not find your answer within them. I am going to guess that is most certainly not the type of novel you managed to retrieve.

Is this a special kind of love? It doesn't seem to be love such as that I feel for my Pokemon, or Ghetsis, or my friends. I am not sure how to classify it.

[ This girl -- she seems like she might be the kind of person that can explain this properly. ]

It is along the same veins, but more emotionally and romantically involved.

To love your friends is to care dearly about them, not wanting harm to befall them, and generally wanting to spend time with them.

However, to love someone in a romantic sense is to do and feel the aforementioned points for them, coupled with wishing to spend and share your life with them. They become one of the most important things to you, someone you'd gladly choose to spend time with over others if forced with a choice.

While you would hurt to lose friends, you're able to move on. If you're in love with someone though, it would feel as though if you lost them...you'd be lost forever. They're an integral part of your life, your better half as some will call it.

...I see. That makes a lot more sense.

So when someone is crushing on another, they think that the person they have a crush on might be that special person? The one they cannot lose?

Indeed, that is what they believe.
