"Selia."

The younger-older Master peered up from his book, an old worn copy of War of the Worlds. "Hm?"

The older-younger Master poured himself a glass of brandy and settled down in his black leather chair. Idly, he swirled the liquid around, then sipped it. "You recall, of course, our efforts with Selia?"

"She went supernova by our hand." The Master's tone was one of mild amusement, fond remembrance, some ill wisdom gained with centuries of malice and mayhem. "Not our intent, but on looking back..."

"A delightful show, yes." He sipped from his glass, then propped his chin in one of his hands. "We were on the right path to extend her life, putting more energy and hydrogen into her. Our problem was that we-"

The younger-older of the two cut in seamlessly, "-didn't give her enough."

The older-younger Master chuckled. "Precisely. We gave her enough to cause her to increase in solar mass, but not enough to maintain that size. Once the transfer was complete, the gravitational forces overwhelmed the energy forces, causing gravitational collapse."

The Master closed his book and set it in his lap, and he grinned widely. "Do go on, Self. I think I might like where you're leading this."

He finished his drink and leaned his head back. "Neutron stars live forever. In death, they find immortality."

"...Seems we attained our goal after all."

"And we could do so much more, Self. Care to bring immortality to the universe?"
