Pardon me.... georgecomer September 8 2008, 12:15:43 UTC
... for interloping on your LJ. I have never been able to locate a copy of
the written pardon, as required by Federal Law, announced by President Ford.
Do you happen to know where I might find a copy?

"Theirs is an American tragedy in which we all have played a part. It could go on and on and on, or someone must write the end to it. I have concluded that only I can do that, and if I can, I must."

I think it fits my point of political and national closure.

It does sound very Vonnegut. On the other hand, it's the most analytical journal so far on the subject.

Just finished "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater" after writing this, so yes, I was blaming that in particular.

That's me, over-analytical.

Thanks.

Not pardoning Nixon, but I'm not sure Clinton was terribly better. Clinton used exaggerated claims of Kosovo's ethnic cleansing for one of the largest recorded conventional bombings. I'm not saying ethnic cleansing wasn't committed, just the bombing did more damage than required for protecting Albanian rights. However, Turkey's Kurdish cleansing/Rwanda's large-scale sectarian violence recieved little from him. Bombing Sudan's chemical plants w/only the janitors were present along w/voting the same as UN majority to remove american mercenaries from Somalia when the said mercenaries had ended the rebel occupancy responsible for large-scale sectarian violence confuses me.

My point isn't to "damn" Clinton for dealing with "devils" but to note observed history doesn't give "angels". I don't claim to be a historian and will acknowledge the information to be incorrect if found so.

Well, foreign indiscretions aside- arguably he did a good job in the office as far as domestic matters were concerned.

Ultimately, I'm not sure if any president CAN make all the right decisions on the international scene anymore- damn well not when it involved military force.

I'm not going to let slide the issues Clinton contributed to on foreign soil any more than I would let Nixon slide on his contempt for the law and democracy.
