I make long drives, a lot. For a couple years I was averaging 2000 miles a month. I'm not up that high anymore, that's not really the point of this post though... what is the point is that I frequently wish I had a stenographer in the car with me to write down all the random meandering thoughts my mind runs through. so get one of the recorders like we used to use for class notes in college, and then transcribe them later

I thought of that, but I don't think I'd ever go through them. I barely ever go back and read things I've written to begin with and doubt I'd have the patience to transcribe my ramblings from a 3-5 hour drive. =/

Use your smart phone to voice capture and DL to your computer or email to yourself. Then break it up into smaller bits, be easier to digest that way. Alot of writers use some method of taping thoughts. You just have to find your best practice to do so.

that would require me having a smart phone..

aside from that, if I was writing a novel or something like that it'd be a different story.

Get a google voice account. Call yourself, leave long rambling voicemails. Watch the magic of auto-transcription dump a transcript in your email inbox.
