That line made me laugh. Mai is very perceptive and doesn't know it considering what Lin can do.

I'm sure she's picked up quite a lot. I believe her parents are also doctors-- at the very least they own a private hospital and she might work in that same hospital; I'm not sure. She does most first aid in the series, too.
Del Ray's not infallible-- somewhat horrible in some cases, but definitely not infallible.
