From everything I've been told, when you die, you do not return to reside among the living without interference. Death is supposed to be a gateway to either Heaven or Hell, depending on what you believe and the actions taken during your lifetime. This is what I was taught, however, do the words of those dying ring more true than their previous ( Read more... )

You are mistaken, this place is simply unique in how it handles it, no one is used to this situation.

This city does seem to be rather unique in many ways.

The afterlife appears to be different in different worlds and realities.

What would be the customs of your world then, Miss, if you don't mind me asking?

It resembles Asain conceptions of the afterlife. A soul must cross the Sanzu River-the closest Western equivlent would be the Styx-to enter the afterlife proper, where it is then judged by a yama, the judge of the dead. The soul is then sent to hell, heaven, the Netherworld where it lives as a ghost, or reincarnated. Heaven though is only for souls that have obtained enlightment. At least, it is supposed to be.

[Hi there, Cain's daddy issues. How are you doing today? :| How about some tea to make it better? I made it in a soup pot with green water but it tastes good okay, I promise.]

...my lord? Would you like something to eat with your tea? Though I'm afraid we mostly have canned vegetables.

[He will not sigh. But he... kind of wants to. We know you don't like the food, Cain, but please don't die 8( Have a butler setting down some tea by you.]

I see. I shall try to find something to season the food better with, my lord, once it's light out again.

Is there anything else I can get you? [and that includes 'do you need to talk...?']

I doubt the seasoning will make a difference.

Another lie? So, you believe the living to consistently lie?

In my experience, words are nothing but a tool to gain an end. I wouldn't say everyone lies to that end but the vast majority, yes.

Of course words are nothing but a tool. For what else would they be used for?

I apologize for not being clear enough. I was more specifically wondering if the words of a man who spent his life acting one way, would be more truthful as he dies even if they go against every word and action during his lifetime.

I am not speaking of the sort of common lies people tell every day to get by.
