Title: Caprice
Series: Prince of Tennis
Pairing: AtoJi
Disclaimer: Yeah, uhuh, not so much.
Rating: ...uh, slides the range?
Notes: This, too, is for 1sentence, but unfortunately, since the mod has not gotten back to me yet, I figure I can just as easily post it here and then relink it there. ^^ Unlike the HiyoMari, I left the numbers in order--some of these are silly, some are angsty, some are sickly sweet.

Caprice

#01 - Walking: Atobe thought that Jirou never walked anywhere if he could be carried, which was quite all right, because Jirou sometimes thought that Atobe never walked anywhere when he could strut.

#02 - Waltz: Jirou really liked all the spinning and the neat little footsie moves that the waltz involved-and besides, when he started doing it by himself in the middle of the living room, Atobe called him crazy and came to dance with him.

#03 - Wishes: Watching shooting stars together was about the only time he could get Jirou both awake and silent without having to use his mouth to do it, but he wasn’t entirely sure why.

#04 - Wonder: there had been a point, not all that long ago, when he’d wondered if he could possibly wait any longer for Atobe; having what he did now, he wondered how he could have ever thought of giving up.

#05 - Worry: They were young, and played tennis together, and there was nothing at all wrong with that; Atobe very pointedly did not ever think about what could happen if his parents found out about them.

#06 - Whimsy: Atobe was reallyreallygood at tennis, and maybe he liked playing really strong opponents, but Jirou never really thought that he actually enjoyed the sport all that much; maybe if he bounced and cheered enough, Atobe would start thinking it was actually funfunfun?

#07 - Waste/Wasteland: the Hyoutei courts looked so empty; he didn’t even realise he was staring until Jirou nudged his wrist and whispered, “S’okay, Atobe, we’re not resigning forever, right?”

#08 - Whiskey and rum: He personally thought that whiskey was a much more refined drink, saturated with care and time and history, but there were only so many refrains of "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rhum!" that a man could take before giving in.

#09 - War: he woke up quickly, and sharply, with no smile on his lips: Atobe’s sparkly new girlfriend was going to regret having ‘accidentally’ pushed his head off Atobe’s lap.

#10 - Weddings: when Shishido commented that Jirou must have drooled on his shoulder during the ceremony, Atobe simply rolled his eyes and let him have his moment of unbecoming glee-Jirou hadn’t been drooling, but men weren’t really supposed to cry at weddings, after all.

#11 - Birthday: he was too old for anything so silly as a party, but he found himself oddly touched to find Jirou half-dozing on his doorstep, murmuring, “Guess I’m the first one here,” with his body curved protectively around a clumsily wrapped, oddly shaped present.

#12 - Blessing: Jirou was pleased and delighted by his friends’ approval, the day they walked into the clubroom to find everyone grinning huge Cheschire grins at him and Atobe-but why was Atobe so mad, and what was with all the funny little foil squares that’d fallen out of his locker anyway?

#13 - Bias: he once told Ootori that Atobe liked things that were cut on the bias; he was proud to be able to tell his kouhai, “It means he likes things that aren’t straight,” but it was very strange how Ootori-kun’s eyes went very wide at that.

#14 - Burning: the first time Atobe heard Jirou cheer “Faaaaalling!” he thought it was odd, but after the tenth time, he had to ask; he should have known that introducing Jirou to that Kawamura fellow was a bad idea.

#15 - Breathing: he’d never stayed awake through one of Oshitari’s movies for long enough to figure out how people actually got any air when they were kissing, but that was okay-from the way Atobe was trying to pretend he wasn’t gasping, it didn’t seem like he had, either.

#16 - Breaking: he’d suspected that nothing good would come of the coaches’ insistence on a Seigaku-Hyoutei mixer-but he had to admit, even he never thought that they’d end up paying damages, caused by Jirou literally toppling over a table on his way to fanboy at Fuji.

#17 - Belief: Atobe always, always thought he was right; Jirou, when he was awake enough to notice, thought that it was funny enough that most of the time, he just let him go on believing it.

#18 - Balloon: Jirou knew that he was often sleepy, but he wasn’t sleepy enough to not realise the irony in him wanting balloons on his birthday, and Atobe responding by taking him up over Tokyo in a balloon filled with hot air.

#19 - Balcony: one of the most awful moments of Jirou’s life was waking up disoriented, with his head and arms dangling in free space and his foot being clutched by a firm, tennis-callused hand-Atobe’s lips were milky pale, and he later swore that Jirou was never to take that medication again, ever.

#20 - Bane: Oshitari had once told him, in a serious moment, that he could learn something from being with Jirou-Atobe very firmly disagreed, and made Oshitari run laps when the team genius pointed out the fact that he was actually smiling.

#21 - Quiet: there was a certain silence that filled the room, when Jirou was asleep in his lap-it wasn’t the kind of silence that he could concentrate and do other things in, but Atobe found himself, strangely, not minding, and not even caring.

#22 - Quirks: when Jirou was studying for his tests, he nibbled on the tip of his left thumb to keep himself awake-Atobe actually found it rather endearing, and almost bizarrely practical; he himself had developed far better ways to keep Akutagawa Jirou awake, even-especially-in a bed… but then the studying almost certainly wouldn’t get done.

#23 - Question: “Atobe, do you love me?” but even half-awake, he knew better than to ask.

#24 - Quarrel: Atobe never, ever apologised, ever, but Jirou thought that hand was gentler than usual through his curls, and it stayed there, stroking, long after the point when Atobe must have figured out he was awake.

#25 - Quitting: sometimes he wondered what exactly he was doing and how he should stop doing it, but then Jirou’s mouth was hot clarified butter under his, across his, and he’d always had a weakness for hot clarified butter.

#26 - Jump: Jirou knew that it was supposed to be called a ‘leap of faith’ for a reason, but falling on the tennis courts was one thing; the thought of actually saying anything to the arrogant idiot he’d loved for so long felt like bungee jumping, to him-without the cord.

#27 - Jester: it was both exasperating and unnecessary, the way Jirou bumped and flopped and plopped around during his tennis games-so Atobe could not for the life of him figure out just why he was laughing.

#28 - Jousting: for someone who’d declared that the entire game was ‘silly’ when Jirou dubbed Oshitari the ‘Baron of Brilliance’ and Ootori the ‘Sultan of the Serve,’ Atobe sure was looking awfully upset-it wasn’t his fault that Atobe wanted to be the Emperor: there weren’t all that many other things he could think of that began with E.

#29 - Jewel: Atobe found himself pleased when Jirou peered across the pillow at him, sleepily, and mumbled, “You’re as bright as a diamond, ‘Tobe…” but his smile faded when Jirou trailed off, eyes drifting shut, with, “…but diamonds’re so expensive… an’ so cold…”

#30 - Just: When he eagerly suggested that they do the ‘you cut, I choose’ thing with the last piece of strawberry rhubarb pie, Atobe gave him that long look down his nose, cut a sliver from the edge-and took the larger piece.

#31 - Smirk: He might’ve been annoyed at his boyfriend’s behaviour, but a) Atobe wouldn’t have been Atobe if he hadn’t been high-handed, b) Atobe’s mouth tasted of starberry rhubarb, and c) pouting was fun-he was pretty sure there was going to be a brand new pie in the fridge tomorrow, even if it had to be imported from America.

#32 - Sorrow: there were no helpless tears, or hopeless histrionics, or even harsh words-but when Jirou looked at him over one dipped shoulder, back very straight and his golden curls dangling over his sleepless eyes, Atobe almost asked him not to go-almost.

#33 - Stupidity: his eyes went very round at Gakuto’s suggestion-he liked being on top, all right, the angle felt really nice, but oh, huh, well, he’d never really thought of that; maybe he’d bring it up with Atobe?

#34 - Serenade: After staying over at Atobe’s house, Jirou sometimes woke up to the sound of the shower, mingled with the most horrible wailing noises he’d never ever heard; Atobe said it was opera, but Jirou muzzily wondered how someone who claimed to be so perfect could be one of the most tone-deaf people he knew.

#35 - Sarcasm: sarcasm didn’t just slide off of Jirou’s back, Atobe thought, with something halfway between disgust and amazement-it seemed like he actively repelled it, like a small, sleepy echidna.

#36 - Sordid: he knew that maybe he’d been just a little excited about going to meet Marui, but he was definitely surprised when Atobe bent him over his knee and gave him a kiss, tongue and hand on his rear and hips together and all, right in front of a gaping Rikkai, a snickering Seigaku, and just about the whole world.

#37 - Soliloquy: it was very annoying to start talking to Jirou about something that he thought was of cardinal importance-only to realise that Jirou was asleep, and he was effectively talking to himself.

#38 - Sojourn: he’d never intended to tell the other Regulars that when his father took him along on business trips, he always brought something small back for Jirou-unfortunately, Jirou, it seemed, was under no such restrictions.

#39 - Share: chocolate was never, ever finer than when it was melted and cooled just enough to be warm on sleek, perfect, pale skin-well, except for the one time he’d gotten excited and forgotten to cool it.

#40 - Solitary: there was little that he liked quite as much as he liked to sleep, but he had to admit that it wasn’t as much fun sleeping alone, anymore, without the sleek long print of a lean body along his back and an arm tucked very possessively around his waist.

#41 - Nowhere: when Atobe bemusedly asked him where they were going with ‘things,’ as he called them, his answer was sleepy and automatic-“Don’t you like just being here?”

#42 - Neutral: there was something rather strange about the way Jirou was simply sitting passively on the bleachers, glancing sideways and anywhere but at the courts and the girl beside him-Atobe had rather thought that his friend would get along with Atobe’s new girlfriend.

#43 - Nuance: he didn’t mind having Jirou napping on his couch-it was a very comfortable couch, after all-but he was a little surprised when he passed by and found Jirou watching him with sleepy eyes before they drifted closed again.

#44 - Near: he thought that Jirou was being both obvious and ridiculous when he mumbled, “being near’s better than being far,” but after the day Akutagawa Jirou simply stopped coming to practice, he wondered what had made the ‘far’ preferable.

#45 - Natural: He really didn’t understand Atobe’s preoccupation with arranging things like rose petals and white silk sheets and soft lamplight-considering that they were both men, what exactly was he planning to do with the bed other than sleep on it?

#46 - Horizon: Jirou had always thought that it was neat that cowboys got to ride off into the sunset; when he mentioned it to Atobe, his boyfriend chuckled, “That’s small thinking, Jirou-winners get to reach for the horizon.”

#47 - Valiant: he wasn’t at all sure he liked it, the first time Atobe slid into him, slow slow slow pressure ow-but to make Atobe’s breath catch like that, what was a little pain, right?

#48 - Virtuous: even before he made his move, he’d decided that their little affair was going to be quiet, private, and entirely circumspect-Jirou, however, disagreed very excitedly, very cheerfully, and very publically.

#49 - Victory: it took six shots of expresso and an entire box of chocolate-coated coffee beans, but finally, finally he got to see just how pretty Atobe looked when he was asleep.

#50 - Defeat: Atobe Keigo had never once admitted to losing, and he made a point never to acknowledge it-even, and especially, on the day he realised he’d lost his heart.

Phew, these are hard! I think I'll try writing a real story for ShishiTori before trying this again!
