Mmm, still beautiful on reread. I especially love her bitter but somehow *accepting* happened-before-&-will-happen-again joke about killing him.

I actually read this when you first posted, but I was at work and couldn't comment, and then I forgot. *face!palm* On the other hand, perfect excuse for rereading!

Like everyone has commented, it is so very hot and sexy in a wonderfully convoluted way, just like their "relationship". I think you got their voices perfect and especially Leoben's perspective, in how fatalistically hopeful he is. Thank you!

God, I love this pairing! And I especially love how you write it. There's such a great dynamic between Leoben's mysticism and Kara's bluntness, and yet you've got them overlapping in a really interesting way - like others above, I loved Kara's joke-but-maybe-not about "all this will happen again," and the paint, and the knifeplay, and ... *flails*

So okay, I can't entirely be coherent here, but it was all very, very nice, and very true to both of them, and godsdammit where's this deleted scene?

The ending almost made me cry:

"His eyes touch on a smear of a paint on her chest. Instead of a single color, this one is a mix of red and blue and yellow, the colors swirling together and yet still distinct. It's right above her heart. Leoben smiles at her, oddly comforted that this isn't the ending, just an ending.

Somehow that makes all the difference."
