I agree that the best way to deal with Derek is to not respond and just forward anything he says to the police. You are too much like me, and have to get in your two cents...which ends up to be $200.* You shouldn't get into a pissing match with this idiot. I also want you to remember that addiction is not just the drug but also the behaviors and mental issues that go along with it, and continue long after the drug is no longer being used. He is a scary individual and therefore, take extreme care...
I am just sad that your good intentions are rewarded in this way...this is where cynics come from...

I'd be more worried if it were actually his style to take care of his things. But he typically just leaves them for someone else to take care of (and by that I mean whomever has the car in their front yard, the stuff in their house, the bench warrant out for him, things like that...)
