Rowany Festival 2009

Apr 15, 2009 07:08

As it was easter, I once again attended Rowany Festival.  This was my 16th in a row.  I have been attending them since I was 18 years old.
For the last few years I keep on saying.. "This is my last one"  I say this because I feel I am getting to old to camp.  I don't mind it, but I do so prefer my comfortable bed and a bit of silence rather than ( Read more... )

Having not camped for a few years, I didn't find it *too* bad.

We had the blow up mattress on the 'anywhere' camp bed - which was surprisingly comfortable for that long.

Shower facilities would have been nice, but... *shrug*... it didn't bother me as much as I thought it may have.

The humidity - I agree though. Ew. No thanks.

Four hours? Where did you learn to drive, boy? Bathurst?

It took us six hours, but we probably didn't go the optimal route, and timing is everything when you get onto the Sydney-Newcastle road, which was most of two hours of that.

The humidity was one bother that I managed to miss in my 24 hours there last year, but the mist and rain were not much better (though at least you can plan for them). Mainly I'm unimpressed with two details of the site: the unfenced river and the lack of a serious escape route if the place floods. The river means the site is totally not toddler friendly, so I won't be able to go to Festival with my whole family before about 2015, and the lack of an escape route means that, whereas previously some nasty weather could lead to discomfort and even a cancelled Festival (one of the ones in the 1980s was closed early due to mud), now a bit of heavy rain could lead to flash flooding and fatalities.

I agree about Crossroads though. The only advantage to that hellish site was the location.

Yeah.. The no protection from the creek is no good for you I agree. But the rain I think is another matter. There are in fact 2 roads out of the site, so in an emergency they are both available to us. The rain on monday afternoon was quite hard and went from about 12:00pm until at least the time we left which was around 7pm. Shar and my car is only a front where drive hatch and we were towing a trailer and had no troubles at all getting out of the site. The roads held up extremely well and didn't become mud holes at all. We didn't slide or anything. I was extemely happy with that.

I am glad to hear you had a good time and even happier to hear you had a safe trip. The roads over Easter are always a disaster.
