boxing is scary. im more of a point sparring guy, where the object isnt to beat your opponent to a pulp, but to hit him with finesse and speed.

I'm sort of in between, I'm not a huge fan of the brutality of boxing. But at the same time I don't like the point sparring at our local Karate tournaments because the point system is pretty flaky. It bears no resemblance to real combat. I think sparring should have an aspect of reality to it so that one can better defend one's self in the real world if the need ever arises. In these tournaments, the winner tends to be the person who's better at throwing as many legs and arms into the air as possible in a short period of time. Continuous sparring is the way to go.

thats true, but if you have good judges, then it doesnt matter much. plus, i found that its a random assortment of punches/kicks only in the lower belts. once u get to a level where people have some sort of control, then you get better fighters and stuff. i suppose i like the technical aspect of it. where you think of weather or not your opponent will block your attack or will it even hit. at least i thought of that. some people i know were just "hay ill throw this kick out and hope it hits somewhere and ill get a point". but ya. i havent sparred in a while. man. a really long while.
