I seem to have fallen victim to a similar fate. although no "parents" are involved, once I found one I can truly be comfortable with.. circumstances arise and destroy everything..

well, 8 years ago.. we met.. I was just out of a marriage and moved back here from England. I was scared of being in love so i ran from it. Now... just this past year.. we crossed paths again.. and that love is as strong as it was... I know he is perfect for me..
He still loves me and has told me so...
problem is.. hes been seeing someone for the past 5 years. they have a history. and he loves her. I would never want to come between that. and because I am a single mom I have a lot more responsibility than he is used to.. etc etc...

Ah very true. Well just cuz you cant date him, doesnt mean you cant hang out and be his best friend. Funny as we grow up, best friends become less and less of an item. Keep up the friendship with him and if anything does happen *god forbid it doesnt* then you will be the first person he turns to for support......

hey girl,i don't know you, but i used to be good friends with alan. alan and i fought a while back, and kinda messed up the friendship, so to hear about this didn't really bother me all that much. but after thinkin about it, and realizing...this is exactly what happened to me a year ago, to the guy i thought i would marry. his mom made him braek up with me, and it was the worst time of my life. unfortunately, after convincing me i no longer had a chance with him (to make him feel better) i found another guy whom i have deeply fallen in love with and am marrying next year, then he chose to come back into my life. i didn't believe it myself, but things will get better. and i promise if you fight it won't be for a lost cause. it'll work if you really love eachother.

No worries about it anymore. I'm over Alan. He knows this and we're both ok with it. I was caught up with the moment when I wrote all that I wrote. My mind was wandering for the most part.
