Jodoworsky's Nightmare

Ok, so, if you read one of my previous posts, you learned that Dune is being made into a movie for the third time, this time with a gigantic budget and apparently the director, Peter Berg, being given a free hand.  Now, I personally think that I should be given complete control over the project because I am the only person I trust to be as ( Read more... )

Berg didn't do Remember the Titans, he did Friday Night Lights, which is the best football movie since Rudy. He also did/does the TV series for Friday Night Lights, which is fantastic. His style is very Michael Mann-influenced (he's admitted as much). He did Very Bad Things (which I never thought was good) and The Rundown (which I really enjoyed) as well as The Kingdom (which I haven't seen but totally looks like a MIchael Mann movie).

Don't know much about Dune, but I know movies.

Yeah, I should've checked IMDB more closely. I too have seen the Rundown and it was good. I also didn't like Very Bad Things much, but I don't know if that was a failure of filmmaking. Doesn't surprise me now that you say he's influenced by Michael Mann when thinking of what I have seen of his. That said, I still don't think he's a bad choice. I like Mann's style, and while I couldn't see him in particular doing Dune, I don't think his style will fail the movie.

Friday Night Lights blew more dick than Jenna Jameson. Plot: "High School Football Team loses their star player and doesn't win the championship" Of course, I hate all sports movies, so yeah.

If you think Friday Night Lights is only about football, you did not at all understand Friday Night Lights.

It's also kind of a fallacy to fault a plot for being true.

Duncan's death has to be on par with Boromir's death in Lord of the Rings. He's gotta go down taking 10 Sardaukar with him, and he needs to be suitably badass. The Sci Fi channel version just had him get hit with a rocket, and the other one I don't remember.

He at least went out killing Sardaukar in Lynch's version, though not anywhere nearly as cool as he did in the book. I agree with you however, that is a very vital thing to me since Idaho is quite possibly my favorite character in the series.

At least Idaho was done very well in the Children of Dune miniseries. His second death is still one of his best, and it was perfect, right down to the "oh shit" look as Stilgar has to go to kill him because Stil has no clue that Idaho isn't going to fight and he expects Idaho to wipe the floor with him. Great stuff.

Children of Dune was better than either of the Dunes. James McAvoy was a badass Leto II.

And of course, since Kevin J. Anderson decided that Idaho is the REAL Kwizatz Haderach/Neo (eye roll) then he has to go out with style.
