Praise the Emperor and pass the ammo

So, I actually finished painting my Imperial Guard Army for Warhammer 40k.  I started painting this army in 2003, started re-painting it in 2006 or so, and finished it today.  I had it all displayed out on a table, taking pictures for message boards, and Deborah insisted I post it here due to it's overwhelming, insanely, large, catastrophic, world ( Read more... )

I had a long discussion with one of my colleagues about the time and effort it takes to put out a really nice looking army like yours and how it is prohibitive to people looking to get in the game. I love W40K, I've got dozens and dozens of Black Library books but I simply don't have the time or money to produce the Grey Knights force supplemented with Inquisitors that I was born to play.

CADIA! A nail in the Eye of Terror. Beautiful job, love the little touches.

Well, I will say that painting a Grey Knights army takes a lot less time than most others, you'd at most put 40 models on the table so the investment is smaller.

I agree 40k can be prohibitive if you don't want to spend months-years painting an army though. It does appeal to the hobbyists who also wargame, so they make up for it on the other side of the equation. I always look at it as an investment. If I paint an army well, it retains its value, even probably gains some. That in and of itself gives me incentive to keep chugging along.

Now I just need to finish my Marines.
