Ol' Dirty Bastard used the term 76 times in the 1999 album Nigga Please, not counting repetitions in a chorus.

woaaaa.
I'm gonna go for 77.

As much as I don't think the world is ready for this sorta thing, I think people take this all too seriously. It's only a word, and the only reason why it's still offensive (to most) is that there's 2 groups of people ruining it: group one is the group that lets it piss them off, and group two is the group that uses it as an insult.

Personally I think all racially offensive words are silly, and to let them bother you (or think of them as hurtful to the races they apply to) is an insult to whatever race. think about it, to let the word "nigga" bug you you would have to dredge up all the racial transgressions of the past and totally ignore the fact that we currently live in a society with equal opportunity for people of all races, sexes. religions etc etc. To still take offense at it would be undermining the culture's successes.

However for the sake of the people that still think that way, we're just not ready for nigga clothes.

I think its what's behind the word that makes it uncomfortable to people, especially black folks. It's like wearing clothes that say "The Name our Slave Drivers Called Us". Then again, I guess African Americans have sort of co-opted it and made it something of their own by adding the "a" in place or the "er". So like you said, it could be seen as a sign of progress. In that case it would be the people who still use it as an insult who are stifling the evolution of the word (again, like you said).
Being a white male, I can't say it feels to be subject of a racial slur, but I think everyone would be better off without them. After all, "love sees no colour". Or, as Eric "eazy e" Wright once said, "Fuck the whtie house, it ain't my house, cuz you can burn the mutha fucka down for all i care, cuz t shirs and khakis is all I wear"

I riddled those rhymes with spelling errors upon inspection.

they should read:

"Fuck tha White House, it ain't my house. So you can burn the mutha fucka down for all I care, cuz t-shirts and khakis is all I wear".

and to you addy: The Rangers are weiners, the Islanders are dumb and the Sabres are a poor excuse for a franchise. That takes care of every new york nhl team.
