This is one of the best Journal posts I have read in the past weeks. Your descriptions -- and deep caring for these friends -- is encompassed with each characteristic you describe.
And I have had similar experiences in the past 6 months, in regards to being challenged to take a fresh look at Christianity after having met and gotten to know a believer who was a genuine, kind person, in spite--nay, /because of/ their faith.
Aw, thanks! I really made some great connections and learned a lot in the last couple of weeks. :) And I think its great that we've both been challenged to look again at Christianity - I tend to fall into the default of 'don't talk to me about your religion, you can't articulate yourself and I don't want to be exposed to that much stupid', which is a horrible horrible way to think, but nobody had ever come along to change that perspective, ya know? Most people WOULD talk to me about their religion, not actually know much/think much about it, and would generally just be painfully ignorant. So I'm THRILLED to have met Lawson and Laura and have that 'stupid christian' stereotype broken. And I'm thrilled at how open and intelligent and kind they were. They've helped me grow into a better person. :)
GAAAAHHHHHH! This is what speaks to me about the future - the incredible and unexpected variety of humans and their experiences, their light, their challenges. I am so freaking in awe of you, Senorita Frijole. Jerry took the CELTA in Istanbul and then taught for 5 years and I am just like, DANG, this needs to happen in my life sometime.
Next on the table for me is SAVING MONEY. I need to find someplace to settle down and replenish the bank account for a while. Probably in Tucson, but hopefully in Eugene/Portland area. So teaching is probably what I'll do for a while, but I'm hoping to segue into some sort of volunteer/non-profit institute which helps refugees get involved in the community. or something similar to that.
And LOL, having a degree in Linguistic stuff DID NOT HELP at all. So much failsauce. :P
