This morning's first witness was the cynical man who had responded to the network broadcast had made when she had first been assigned to this case. After the occurrences of the day prior, Franziska was certain that she had enough convincing witnesses lined up for the day to ensure that the leader of the despicable cult received a guilty verdict. It would be interesting to see his conduct in person and compare it with what she recalled from the network.

"The prosecution calls this morning's first witness to the stand."

"When able, what did you speak about?" It was essential to draw out all the information he was capable of providing, to really push the sympathy angle, perhaps, and to continue to irritate those AGI lawyers.

He shook his head slowly. "I asked them to let me go. And they told me, that I could be the first to go if I wanted. They said I'd be their 'strength' if I did."

One hand absently brushed over the covered brand on his arm, a frown crossing his face. "They mentioned a 'vessel' that needed to be unsealed. I asked them what it was. They said they needed to unseal it to free me and that I had to be paralysed because I wouldn't come willingly." A slight pause as he remembers the exact words. "They said I'd been corrupted, and that part of the Core was slumbering inside of me. After that, they told me not to worry. To rest and wait for the ritual."

Franziska watched his movements with a subdued sort of curiosity. Yet, this wasn't the time nor place for curiosity; her role in this courtroom was simply to provide the proof that showed the defendant was a threat to society. "So they admitted to using force to contain you?"

"Yes. They said we were too corrupted to come willingly, so they had to take us by force and imprison us," he replied. His words were cool and there was a dark note in his voice at the word 'imprison'.
