Sheila | All Day - Likely all of the Night gavesugar May 15 2011, 09:05:39 UTC
[This is a rare excuse for Sheila to wear her own clothing; a stunning pink brocade dress with corset and stomacher. She has a ribbon and is four steps ahead of the music.

As is proper rhythm and manner she used hundreds of years ago.

They're not getting anything right so far, she swears.

catch her on her way from the maypole.]

[Normally, save for the flower viewing parties, and obligations to the Kuchiki clan, Byakuya avoided pursuits such as this. However, he'd been restless lately and needed to do more than sulk - and he was adult enough to admit it was sulking - around the house. The Core had a cruel sense of humor, offering Unohana and Kurotsuchi but not Rukia or Abarai.

To get his mind off of it, he'd come here looking for distraction.

He found it. Sort of.

Mostly, he was irritated with the people. But then, he saw one in the crowd that he recognized.]

Sheila-sama.

Hey BB Hey gavesugar May 15 2011, 11:10:27 UTC
[Sheila is an irritation and a distraction all at once; many a man would say this.]

Sir Byakuya...

[She offers a deep curtsy.]

Art thou well? What brings thee here?

[He's at least observant. He's come to the conclusion that her movement is the same as bowing in his culture.

Today, he's opted to put in the kenseikan, and wears the light scarf of his office at home. He feels more dressed than he has in months.]

Distraction. The house was confining. You are enjoying yourself?

[One day, she'll, in turn, realize she should bow when she meets him. But she's still amazed by the cultural differences that exist in general.

He does look attractive; Sheila, in her spring costume that is modified from the dress she wore when she arrived in port, without the quilted petticoats she wore that day.]

Tis a merry way to distract thyself...and aye, I am, though they do not seem to concern themselves with accuracy here.

[She frowns at one of the booths. Corndogs? Honestly?]

[She looks interestingly fetching. He's not used to Western fashions, especially historical ones, and prefers the easy movement of his traditional clothing. However, he's conceded to wearing slacks and shirts here, rather than the blacks and haori. At some point, he'll put them back on.]

Oh? Western history is not a strength of mine.

[She's not seen him in formal robes yet - she'll be very intrigued by the sight of him, when she sees them.]

Aye. Oh, the colors, and the ale, and the sweetmeats; all wrong!

[He's lacking a haori. He needs one of those. He'll probably commission one after the repairs are finished.]

It is the bane of the future to mock the past. It is the reason no one learns.

[Thanks to her meetings with Lee, she's not aware of the finer details. But oh, how she admires beauty.]

Aye, this is my sole notion. But then they are not faced with the persons they mock.

Some of the frippery remains lovely. Have ye eaten?

[Byakuya also admires pretty things. Just look at himself. And he's truly admiring Sheila now. Though, he is keeping it subtle and not blatant.]

The pageantry is distracting.

No, I have not.

[She appreciates being admired, and modestly lowers her eyes, her court training kicking in.]

Aye. My time wert quite noisesome but it was not quite as brassy.

Shall we sup, then?

[Byakuya notices, but doesn't comment.]

It is very different from Soul Society. The noise there is of industry, but little else.

[A slight incline of his head.]

I will defer to your knowledge, if you will allow me to pay.

[And he's a terribly smart man for doing so.]

Thy Soul Society - what work doth it do?

[He hasn't explained that one yet. She curtseys again at his offer.]

Aye, ye may.

[And offers him her hand,]

[It takes him a moment of awkwardness before he simply offers his arm to her. He's not used to people wanting to touch him without sharp objects in hand.]

We are shinigami. We reap and purify the souls of the dead.

[Byakuya doesn't have the greatest social skills]

[Sheila never did get the chance to flirt much when she was younger, so this is new to her too; she loops her arm through his and gives him a look of complete shock as he tells her of his occupation.]

Then ye are a God in thy world?

[ALL of Sheila's male acquaintances have lousy social skills, except for Danny.]

[Byakuya's expression doesn't change, but there's an air of uncomfortableness at the word 'god'.]

We are shinigami. We obey the Spirit King and keep the balance between souls in the Human World and Soul Society. We purify the corrupt souls that did not pass on and attempt to feast on human souls.

It is our duty.
