[Everything feels so strange, tense, like the calm before a storm. Xion can feel it, she's worried for her friends and she's worried for everyone else.

She wants to get stronger; she knows that Roxas and Joe have been training hard, and she doesn't want to be a burden to them. She wants to help Ven and Aqua get Terra back. She wants to be as strong as she knows Sora is- after all, if she's his copy, why shouldn't she be?

It's daunting though. The last time she fought anyone...

She puts that thought from her mind as she makes her way out to the woods to train.]

[She takes a deep breath... then goes on the offensive.]

OK! Let's do this.

[...and Joe!]

[He's already in their usual training clearing, having just finished the night souring the city for Xehanort with Roxas.

There was too much restless darkness lingering on his heart to just go home after morning siren, try and sleep there. Or to take up Riku's offer, and stay up at the Club. If Ansem, Xehanort, Vanitas could sense his darkness...and so it was better if at all to stay in a place where the other Keybearers would be.

Which is why he's napping huddled against one of the trees, having slumped over into the mossy earth afterdozing off.]

[After Xion has finished training with Ven, she decides to go for a bit of a wander to cool off, regroup and take a break.

She's sort of daydreaming, but when she sees Joe slumped against a tree she snaps back to the present with a cry of alarm.]

Oh no, Joe. Joe!

[She runs up to him and shakes his shoulder, desperately hoping he's not hurt.]

Huh?

[he stirrs muzzily at that jarring shake, lifting his head quickly, drawing in a sharp breath]

Xion! Xi- What- Oh...what... [He groans and pulls himself back onto his knees] did something happen?

[He sits up, and Xion feels the nervous tension leave her to be replaced with relief.]

I saw you lying there and I thought-

What are you doing out here? Did someone hurt you?

No, I just...figured I'd nap quick, till somebody got here, and then we'd train.

I can't sleep. Not when all this stuff is happening.

[A pause, then-]

I feel really bad about it. About trusting Terra could handle it alone...I feel bad about going to bed at home and crashing for hours, when really we have to keep getting stronger.

I know what you mean, but you've got to get some sleep sometime, otherwise you won't get enough rest and you'll just get tireder instead of stronger.

[She sits down next to him.]

But I know what you mean. It's always going to feel like it's not enough.

[madeinoblivion]

[He wraps his arms around his knees]

I guess I thought because Terra was the oldest and the strongest, if he couldn't beat Xehanort for good than no one could.

No it's up to all of us together... [He sets a hand at her shoulder.]

But I don't want anything bad like that to ever happen to you, or to Roxas. Or Namine. I don't know what I'd do. I wouldn't hold back. Even the darkness couldn't keep me from trying.

[She smiles faintly and puts her hand on his]

That's how I feel too.

[But if it means keeping everyone safe... she will sacrifice herself in a heartbeat. She doesn't say it, she knows that if she ever did it would only upset whoever she says it to, but it doesn't make it any less true.]

We just have to keep each other safe, until we get Terra back and stop Master Xehanort.

Yeah.

[He nods surely.]

Yeah, we've got to try our best.

So...you...want to practice? You're a little better at magic than me, I think- when there's no darkness involved. Can you give me some tips?

Sure, what sort of tips do you want? Are there any spells you really want to work on?

[Joe's usually so much more assured and knowledgeable about things that it gives Xion the tiniest thrill to think that the roles are being reversed a little.]

[He gives a small shrug, feeling a little bit humbled as he climbs slowly to his feet, pacing the length of the clearing.]

I'd like to know how to do a Firaga without the darkness, I guess, and...all the other elemental ones would be good too.

OK, well... why don't you show me what you can do already?

[She's never taught, she has no idea how this usually goes, but it can't be that hard, right?]

[With that he lunges abruptly, extending his hands, casting a burning mass of darkness across the clearing- It fizzles out before it reaches the opposite trees.

Then he straightens, looks expectantly to Xion.]

I can do a shield too- Riku showed me.

[Xion steps back, watches him charge and cast his spell and the dark blaze that follows. She's taken aback by the raw power behind it, just for a second.]
