Can I do painting?

[Rain’s been painting since the morning and his apron is stained with a variety of pastel colors. The roller he's holding is currently dipped in canary yellow]
There’s an extra roller in the pan, someone just left for work.
Reply
[With a casual grin, he reaches for the spare, taking his time to coat the roller.]
I'm Joe. You must be one of the newer people, 'cause I don't remember seeing you around before. Where are we starting?
Reply
Yup, I'm new, and I'm probably even going to get to paint my own room today if we keep up this pace. We're finishing off this room over here actually...
[Stepping carefully through a doorframe, Rain gestures Joe to follow him into an apartment where a few others have started the living room area]
You might want to grab an apron, too, or else paint'll get all over your legs pretty fast.
[He points at an apron discarded by the doorway, left over from the person who had gone off to work]

The Tower apartments looked different, bigger than he'd remembered, with some of the furniture pushed back and dropcloths put down. He was about to shrug off the offered apron, but then tied it on anyway.]
Sooo, I just....paint anywhere on a wall that's not done yet?
Reply
[He starts painting semi-high up on the wall to illustrate as he explains, his height helping him reach around the top of the doorway.]
Start in the center of the wall, and use nice, long Z-strokes and then work your way out. Don’t press the roller too hard on the wall, or else you’ll use all your paint up fast. And try to make sure you cover the area while the paint’s still wet, or else the roller will pick up the drying bits. That’s about it. The trick is to be patient and then it’s easy.
It’s actually really relaxing.

I came by to help and work, not to relax! If I wanted to relax, I would have just stayed home.

[Rain takes a secret dig at himself. His section of the wall is looking quite smooth and even now.]
If you want to, you can use the extension pole and paint the ceiling if that's "more exciting".
Reply
That's a little boring. I'll stay doing this-
....So what kind of world are you from?
Reply
[It's clear Rain's just joking.]
What kind of world? Hmm...
[He reloads the roller in the tray.]
A very normal one. People live and go about their days. The biggest, wealthiest cities are similar to this one, but the rest of the country I live in is mostly rural. We have cars and TV, too. The language is different though.
So what's different about your world than this one?
Reply
It wasn't really much of a world.
It was sort of a castle, out in the middle of nowhere, Riku said.

So how long have you been here, Joe? You must be pretty used to this city by now. I haven’t gotten to see all of it, yet, myself.
Is Riku someone from your world, too?
(ooc: just a heads-up, I will be on hiatus starting Aug. 7 for a month)

[This was always awkward, and Joe always spits this part out fast, because it's easier than the truth, that he's a replica.] He's my twin brother.
...And yeah, I've been here since last March. I was on the 12th floor, back when I lived here. It's hard to believe it's been a year and a half since I was going up and down all those stairs!
Reply
[Rain accidentally overshoots his mark on the wall when he hears what floor Joe lived on.]
Really? I can’t imagine climbing all those stairs at least twice a day, every day.
[Rain lives in a clock-tower, so he’s no stranger to stairs, but the fifth floor was at least reasonable. Being lazy and jumping out his window to get down was also less conspicuous from the 5th floor than leaping from the 12th would be.]
Maybe Ms. Franziska can also get that elevator fixed somehow, [a chuckle]
So you’ve been here quite a while then. What have you been up to?
