[Standing on a building, Byakuya faces into the wind. For a change, he's pulled on the scarf, the kenseikan and the blacks. He's being a shinigami tonight, complete with his gauntlets. The only thing he's missing is the haori.

Before sirens he whisked people to safety. Now that sirens had sounded, and the Darkness had crept in... Now was the time to fight, if necessary, and rescue those who were unable, or unwilling, to seek shelter before.]

[Byakuya's reiatsu is one Re-l would know anywhere. It's as familiar to her now as Grimmjow's, and when she feels it flare up, she knows he's nearby. A young girl has gotten separated from her mother when she feels it and she immediately grabs the girl and makes a run for the nearby shelter, where she claims her mother is.

It's not very surprising to see Byakuya across the street from the establishment, helping to protect the people within it.]

[The kidou barrier around the house hadn't taken anything at all. With him and Hitsugaya gone it had just made sense, since they had not taken the time to inspect their home and had instead, rushed to the aid of those in the port.

When he saw Re-l, and the girl she had with her, Byakuya shun-po-ed down, his sword out as they ran. He could feel the creatures massing. The shield went up, stopping the thick black substance that was flung at their backs. It slid slowly down the shield, landing with a plop on the ground.]

[She glances back behind her when he saves her, nodding. She goes to the shelter door and opens it, pushing the girl inside. She has to help. She can't stay. She's sure she sees her being called by her mother before the door is closed and then she goes back to Byakuya.

She gives him a nod.]

Thanks.

[Byakuya just nods and continues watching. These are new. He's never seen these before, save on the NV. Spitters. Not his first choice for monsters - though he'd never admit to having a first choice - but not unexpected.

However, there is a defense against them. A kidou barrier seems to work quite well. Mostly.

The problem is taking out a large group at once. Were there not human souls to worry about he would simply let Senbonzakura handle it... in the shade of his reiatsu, Mayer-san should be alright.]

Mayer-san, behind me.

[He's the man with the plan...]

[She can help. She knows she can. But the method he's going to use requires her to be out of the way and she knows this. She takes a few steps back and lets him do his work, doing her best to keep out of his way.

She'll help if he needs it, but for now, she'll do as he says.]

Don't worry about me.

[The kidou wall snaps up as another spitter flings something that smells like vomit and looks like pea soup at them. The disgust briefly registers on his face.]

Chire, Senbonzakura.

[The sword collapses into flower petals, the pommel still in his hand. The flower petals float on the wind, racing toward the spitters. Then the first one gets cut... And the petals become a swirling mass of blades that rip them to shreds.]

[The attack is impressive, to say the least. He cuts into the monster with ease. It's almost frightening, but she's seen how Aizen's been able to attack people before. She watches with an almost morbid fascination and then turns back to the others with a careful eye.

She wants to be sure none of the others attack while he's focused.]

[Senbonzakura reforms from the tip to the hilt, and he just glances out of the corner of his eye as they seem to be regrouping, not having expected an attack like that.

His hand rises and he points at one of the others, a brief flash of kidou and it stumbles into the others, causing a riot among them.]

Where are you going next?

[She turns back to him, finally stepping up to his side.]

There are still people out there who need help. I need to keep looking for them. I'm scouring Sectors 4, 8, and 9.

[A glance around.]

We would be faster together, Mayer-san.

[And he just offers a hand.]

[She pauses for a moment, and no longer, before she takes his hand.]

All right. Thank you.

[Aaaand she's gathered up, and shun-po to Sector 10. Yeah, he's faster than he was as a child, and faster than, well, pretty much anyone. about the only ones to beat him are 2nd division and they're supposed to.

He sets her down carefully.]

I will go this way.

[God, she keeps forgetting how fast that is. She's glad it doesn't snap her spine in half. She slides out of his arms with a nod.]

All right. Just be careful. If you need my help...call me.

[He's already got Senbonzakura pulled. He glances at her, out of the corner of his eye.]

You as well, Mayer-san. The souls are angry tonight.
