Helen had been scarce, lacking in her Greeter duties a little with the new 'batch' of Newcomers. Today she was out on the field, wondering quite who or when the next arrival would be. Apparently it seemed that it wouldn't be long before that question became answered, judging by the young woman that appeared (and rolled) onto the field.

Making her way over Helen took a quick moment to analyse the situation - disorientation, as usual from the pull of the Core, but seemingly no injuries. She was lucky - many that Helen had seen arrive had been worse than her.

It didn't take long to cross the field and soon Helen was by her, moving her umbrella to shelter the young girl from the rain. "Are you all right?" A relative question, but it would help her to know of any injuries or conditions that Helen couldn't detect by eye. Everyone took to the Port and hearing of it differently and she couldn't help but wonder how this would turn.

"There's no sign of them, as if they never existed. The night - the Darkness - is what gives them their power but there are protections against them. The buildings here have been protected by Darkness Proofing - without it they would be able to enter them. You'll be safe provided that you stay indoors." And she's really hoping that you will - she doesn't want to see you in the clinic or hospital.

She can't promise anything, but she doesn't feel a need to even want to be out with those things. Not that it would be too dangerous for her - all things considering - but regenerating isn't really her favorite thing to do. At least, not regenerating limbs.

"And there's no way to just kill them all at night so they aren't a problem?"

"There are more than we know of, and even so it wouldn't solve the problem - they'd return the following night." She'd killed enough in the few months that she'd been in the Port.

"This place just keeps getting weirder." Normally when you knocked things down 'for good', they didn't get back up (though there were exceptions to that, like her). "Does the Core do that- bring them back every night? Or can they regenerate on their own?"

"Access has been limited to the Core. That answer I cannot give with certainty, but they do have regenerative abilities also." And were bloody hard to take down - tranquilisers also had minimal effect.

Claire would probably wear herself out before getting somewhere safe, if their regenerative abilities were like her own. "Why isn't anybody allowed near the Core? You'd think they'd want us to find a way back home so we'd be out of their city. And destroying it would get rid of the Darkness, too, if the Core controls that."

"There are policies in place, that prevent SERO, AGI or Newcomer's from researching into it. There are... conflicting interests between both the companies." She wished it were so simple.

It still made no sense to Claire. If nobody wanted them in the city, then why was research not being done on the Core, which is the only thing that can get them out of the city? Maybe it was just a Canadian thing.

"That just seems so ... useless. Even if the companies have conflicting interests, they should be able to research it." She might consider starting a petition to get the policy changed.

That was something which Helen wished to know herself.

"And how would you suggest that they go around that? If there are conflicting views then they may be unable to cooperatively research it." For one example.

"They're adults, right? They can just get over it and work it out." Okay, so even she knew that was weak, but as cheesy as it sounded, it would probably work. Maybe.

It was a nice thought, in any case.

"One can hope." And if not perhaps they could be persuaded a little.

"Is there anything that you'd like to know, either in terms of information or experience?"

"No, thanks, I-" She paused, taking in a quick breath. "I think I'll be good for now." She could use her tablet-thing and test it out, or maybe roam around the city for a little bit and try to figure out just what the heck was going on.

Helen gave her a nod, and a small smile. "Will you let me know if there's anything I can do for you, or tell you? I live in the Tower Apartments, I'm easy reachable." And at all times of day, too.

"Yeah, I'll make sure to do that. Thanks." Helen seemed like a good woman, helpful, kind, smart. The weather wasn't as bad as when she had arrived, but it was wetter than she was used to. Good thing she had been wearing a jacket at the train tracks back in California.

She gave another nod. "Will you be all right making your way from here?" With the rain and knowledge thrown at her she had to ask.
