[The screen shows Souji standing in a parking lot, the baseball field he arrived at in the background. He's holding his NV in front of him so it's not completely steady, but he's doing his best. He has a serious expression on his face, his eyes sharply looking at the camera of the NV.]Naoto Shirogane, if you can hear me, please stay where ( Read more... )

[Souji turns the key in the lock and opens the door to his "new" apartment. He walks inside, looking around, somewhat not expecting the apartment to be as spacious as it was.]

[Well, this is awkward. Yosuke follows after, hands behind his back. Awkward in the sense that he has to start explaining things now. Beyond the things that was easy and generic information.]

It's pretty amazing, huh? What they'd give people who literally just show up.

[Souji turns back towards Yosuke, a small smile on his face, nodding]

It really is. I was expecting much smaller.

[He stood there, placing a hand on his hip, thinking for a minute or so, then looks up into Yosuke's eyes and speaks quietly.]

You've been acting strangely since Kanji and I arrived.

Really? I didn't--

[He had started to laugh, but drops the pretense. That is more insulting to the both of them.]

That's because ... because ... I wanted to apologize to you.

[He kept his eyes trained on the other, a neutral expression on his face. He was glad the other knew that he knew there was something up, and he wanted to know what. If he could help it, he'd keep the other there until he did tell him what was up.

However...his eyes widened when he heard what Yosuke said.]

...Why?

I know that you're not the same Souji, but ... I really let you down, man. And I'm sorry.

[His head lowers. He isn't sure if this will make him feel better, but the guilt that he had about what happened --]

I know that you couldn't believe in me after that and ... you could only trust in Kanji. But ... I didn't mean to make it seem like ... like I wasn't always on your side.

[He was pretty sure his mouth was open slightly at hearing that. What? Not believe in Yosuke? What in the world...?

He would find out what exactly happened later. This obviously had been bothering him for...however long it's been since he was here last. He chose his words carefully, speaking in a deliberate manner, eyes never leaving the other's face.]

Yosuke...don't apologize.

I don't know what happened, but I can say with confidence that you didn't let me down. You've never done it before, and I have no reason to believe that you will.

And as far as being on my side...well...if you have a different opinion on something, that's okay. Partners aren't supposed to agree all the time. [A small smile flickered at the corners of his lips at the word "partners"]That other Souji...I believe it was me. But that's not the me standing here right now. I don't know what type of dimension or timeline he was from. Who knows? Maybe something happened to him that made him different than me ( ... )

[His eyes widen just a little at hearing all of that. He had talked to Kanji -- the Kanji of before -- about what had happened a little. Hearing all of what was said then had given him a little confidence, but actually hearing what Souji said now ... it makes everything better.

His shoulders drop just a little at the end in relief. The posture that he had before was one that was stiff and awkward, but now he is feeling a little more like himself. Yosuke sniffles at first, wiping awkwardly at his face, before nodding once.]

I didn't let you down. I ... I'm glad to hear that, partner. [A beat.] I'm sorry. It's not like that was all said to me... it's just ... how I thought all this time, and I'm sorry. I shouldn't have thought that was how thing were. That isn't how you are, right? Right.

Still ... thank you, Souji.

[He let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding, watching the other visibly relax. And yet even after all that, he was still very curious to know what had caused Yosuke to think like that. Had the other version of him come from a different dimension, causing him to act differently? Had something extreme happened between the two of them?

Souji still had a small smile on his face, relieved that the other seemed more comfortable and nodded once to acknowledge the other.]

Don't worry about it. And you don't have to apologize.

[Ah? He looks up a little as it sounds as though the siren has gone off. Still even so, Yosuke lets out another little sigh, and he feels even more like that weight is gone.

That's right. Souji always is able to say the things that return his confidence to what it is supposed to be. He is surprised that he is still so invested in what Souji thinks about him. Guess, he hasn't grown up at all.

Another wiping of his face, turning his face away to hide that he might be crying, he changes the subject abruptly.]

Welp! I guess I'll be staying here for the night.

[He can feel his ears perk up as he hears...what sounds like a siren. So that's the signal for when the monsters come out...

Souji had noticed the other wipe at his face but of course didn't mention it.

He waited until the other seemed composed and nodded.]

I don't mind the company.

[He begins to wander towards the kitchen area. He's been here a few hours already, and was in the TV world a couple of hours before that. He was considerably hungry and began to check the cabinets.]

Oh, they even give us a little bit of food.

[He reaches up into the cabinet and brings down two instant noodle cups and sets them on the counter, beginning to fill up a kettle with water]

I'll make you some too, okay?

It's like a sleepover.

[Yosuke adds with a joke. Though, he already is pointing to the chair as that is where he is going to sleep.]

Hm?

[Walking after, he nods slightly -- though, is a little disappointed. He'd rather have some of Souji's cooking than something instant. But beggars couldn't be choosers, and well, it'd be a dick move to ask his partner to cook after being pulled into Port.]

Thank you!

[As he set the kettle on the stove and learned how to turn it on, he began to think about how different Siren's Port might have seemed to him had Yosuke nor Kanji been there with him. He was really glad that he had those two with him, especially since Yosuke knew his way around.

He leans against the counter, folding his arms in front of him as he looks at Yosuke]

It's nothing. You'll have to show me around tomorrow so I can pick up some actual food though...maybe look for a job too.

[It was right then that he felt a wave of nausea and the pulling in his chest felt stronger. He put a hand to his face, closing his eyes and waiting for the wave to pass. Good thing he was making instant ramen...it wouldn't be too harsh on his stomach.]

[Taking his seat on the nearest available chair, it seems weird to be constantly hovering around him even if he is worried. He smiles lightly at what Souji said, shoulders shaking a little in amusement, before he sobers up just a little.]

You're always trying to stay busy, aren't you? But you could rest for a little bit ... it wouldn't hurt.

[He stands up suddenly as he holds his hands out in front of Souji like that would do anything.]

Hey! ... Look, why don't you sit down and I finish this? I can't screw up ramen in a cup, right?

[He puts up a hand at Yosuke, waving it in a "don't worry" gesture, a small smile forced on his face.]

It's alright. Really.

[The kettle begins to whistle. He turns his back on Yosuke to turn the stove off, taking a deep breath to settle his stomach a bit. He takes the kettle and pours boiling water into each cup, then closing the lids to let them cook]

Well, it's...odd not having a job. Plus I need the money. It's not like back in Inaba where I was just earning pocket change. I only have a month to find someplace else, so I might as well start saving up, right?

[Action] outbursting May 13 2011, 18:56:05 UTC
I guess so.

[It took him a little longer to find a job than the others. And he is already thinking that he should drop it to find something else. While he likes helping people, it ... it doesn't feel like anything is changing. Or that much difference is being made with people like the Joker and the like running around. More bodies that can't be healed and just--]

Seriously, you shouldn't have to put yourself out, though. I don't like thinking that you might just collapse...!
