That and humans are rather crazy when it comes to the unusual. They'd kill half the Fae and any strange humans before most of them even thought about whether or not not all of them might not be bad.
But if they can get legislation passed that protects all supernatural creatures, they can come out after that happens. Especially if they can portray themselves as wasting away as a species because they're not feeding.
Yeah, the vampires would still probably get killed on spot. People have problems with blood drinkers. Just look at mosquitoes. And vampires are hardly as innocuous as mosquitoes.

The vampires will do it as long as they can. You can make werewolves into heroes, but there's just no way to spin drinking blood into a good thing.
