Newcomer found dead in gruesome murder; forensics baffled
by Clark Kent

The editor offers a graphic content warning before the story begins, and apologises to friends of the victim in advance for the harsh manner in which the death has been covered. They add that the real tragedy would be to downplay the murder, rather than to confront it.

The body of a newcomer this morning identified as Miss Kunogi Himawari was discovered yesterday evening by an amorous young couple, concealed in a deep thicket between the baseball diamond and the newcomer apartments. The couple were apparently too shaken to respond to questioning by this reporter, and a member of the forensics team stepped forward instead.

The officer explained that the young woman had clearly been dead for a while, as creeping Darkness had obscured any evidence--if indeed there was any in the first place. The most baffling thing, he explained, was that despite the nature of the injuries, there was no sign of a struggle, no DNA evidence, no recognisable blade pattern, and no fingerprints left on the scene. Only half of a size 9 shoeprint suggested that this was murder, rather than an act of the Darkness itself, though there is no proof that the print was not left there at some other time.

The victim had clearly suffered in her final moments, he explained, when pressed. Her head had been cut open and hollowed out, the contents vanishing without a trace. Understandably, there is rumor of cannibalism. Since the grizzly discovery yesterday, police claim to be following several leads, though as yet have no suspects. They are requesting information from anyone in the vicinity of the baseball diamond on the afternoon of the 8th, who may be able to shed some light on this vicious crime.

A colleague of the victim, also a Greeter, remarked on the murder. "It's really upsetting. She's such a bright and lovely person! To find her like that is troubling, but it's all a part of the job, I suppose. We're going to miss her."
