Boxed Body Boggles Detectives

Late last night, there was a box found on top of the police station in sector four. When a satellite dish began to malfunction, they sent several people up to try and repair the problem. When the crew got up to the roof, they found a large wooden box that had clearly been sitting out in the elements for days with a terrible smell emanating from it.

The crew got several of the officers from below and they opened the box to find the decomposing body of (what appeared to be) a blond female. The body was in poor condition, from reports, and with many broken bones to contort into the too-small box. The janitorial staff admitted that a storage room below the spot had taken on a smell, but they had assumed something had gotten into the ventilation shaft.

"It's really something." Said an officer (who wished to remain nameless) who works at the sector four station, and was part of the roof team. "It had to have taken a lot of time and effort to get her into that box, and then more to get it to our roof without tripping the system. We sent five of our guys around to just try and get around it, and they all were caught."

The body is currently being looked over by the city coroner for forensic evidence in the hope to find who the mysterious woman was, and police are searching through video footage of the room to try and track how the box came to be there.

Any information should, of course, be reported to the SPPD.

Letter to the Editor
The difference between all of the examples listed by our dear anonymous writer on 20th of November and the actual problem with vigilantes and bounty hunters is that those are one-off circumstances; the ones on the stand right now are those who decide to chase after these one-off circumstances; to, perhaps, make an entire career out of it.

These are not people are not walking home alone and being a good Samaritan when they see people in trouble: they are going out of their houses, dressed in ludicrous costumes, and looking for trouble. Bounty hunters literally chase down criminals for profit. These people are most likely without training, without any real idea about how the police or even the law operates - characteristics, I believe, that these vigilantes share with the anonymous letter writer. They are not regulated. They are not being held accountable. They go by silly names like 'Wingman', 'Superman' and 'Batman' - not real names, not names that can be trusted. Many of them don't even show their faces.

To use examples of self-defense and defense of others as proof that vigilantism should be upheld and made legal plainly proves how ridiculously ignorant the Newcomer population is. There is a big difference between stopping a rapist once and comforting the victim and going home afterwards, and stopping a rapist once, chasing him down, beating him half to death, and deciding that you truly like the rush of taking the law in your hands and starting to hunt down rapists. To compare the two is to completely sully goodwill, kindness, and compassion.

I cannot help but think that the letter is written by a Newcomer vigilante desperate to prove her selfish actions to be righteous. But we of Siren's Port are not so easily fooled.
