If you people want someone to work on that, though, I speak their language. Politics is a hard place when you're new.

It is unfortunate that we have not been able to get the Newcomer Office set up within the current government, as of yet. It's one of the many things we have been working on.

[Pauses.] Unfortunately, politics seem to be the one area where time is a much bigger factor then just skill.

[ A soft laugh ] That's for sure. The time necessary is practically a full-time job before you even get the job.

I can offer you a job working with the NPP. It's not a board position, nor does it pay much. But it could get you started, and you can fill out your resume, while you look for another job as well.

[ He laughs a bit. ] That's true of any kind of politics, if you ask me. As much as the Poli Sci kids like to say there's a science to it, when you get right down to it, it's a pain in the ass to predict.

It's not so bad! Sometimes frustrating, but the opportunity to do something good? I wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't know. The last guy I knew who tried it ended up almost having a heart attack.

It's definitely not a line of work for the feint of heart. You have to know when to take a break.

That's one of the benefits of being here, actually. You can embellish and edit your achievements without anyone being much the wiser. Of course, you do have to be able to prove your skills -- put your cash in your mouth, so to speak.

Difficult, yes, but we all start has relative unknowns when we first run. I'd like to think that makes me a seasoned veteran at this building a career thing.
