You know, shit like a snowstorm really puts a damper on trying to do anything useful. [ He looks away from the camera, somewhat distracted, but focuses himself back on the NV after a moment. ]

Then again, so does having your apartment bombed, I suppose. [ A small bark of a laugh. ] Anyway, I think it's obvious that if I don't want to be a ( Read more... )

[Thoughtfully:]

We had been talking about advocating for a Newcomer to sit on some sort of council to the Governor... Maybe it's time to finally get that in motion.

Yes, really.

[She doesn't joke a lot, okay.]

There's just two problems. The first is that we haven't really done this before and Siren's Port is... Well, you can see all the problems it has.

Yeah, I've noticed.

If you people want someone to work on that, though, I speak their language. Politics is a hard place when you're new.

It is unfortunate that we have not been able to get the Newcomer Office set up within the current government, as of yet. It's one of the many things we have been working on.

[Pauses.] Unfortunately, politics seem to be the one area where time is a much bigger factor then just skill.

[ A soft laugh ] That's for sure. The time necessary is practically a full-time job before you even get the job.

[That makes him smile, just a little.] Politics are much different back home. Most of what the NPP has come up with has been... guess work. Adapting.

I can offer you a job working with the NPP. It's not a board position, nor does it pay much. But it could get you started, and you can fill out your resume, while you look for another job as well.

[ He laughs a bit. ] That's true of any kind of politics, if you ask me. As much as the Poli Sci kids like to say there's a science to it, when you get right down to it, it's a pain in the ass to predict.

[ And then there's almost a smile in his voice, almost ] Really? What kind of position?

Ew, politics. That's a road I hope I never have to go down.

It's not so bad! Sometimes frustrating, but the opportunity to do something good? I wouldn't have it any other way.

I don't know. The last guy I knew who tried it ended up almost having a heart attack.

It's definitely not a line of work for the feint of heart. You have to know when to take a break.

[ WHICH HE...DOESN'T ]

That's one of the benefits of being here, actually. You can embellish and edit your achievements without anyone being much the wiser. Of course, you do have to be able to prove your skills -- put your cash in your mouth, so to speak.

And you said you were a politician.

I like to think I've got a bit more going for me than the rest of my ilk, as hard as I know that is to believe.

Besides, there's not much room to embellish, I'll be honest.

I hope you find something suitable -- It's difficult to start from scratch when you have a political career.

Difficult, yes, but we all start has relative unknowns when we first run. I'd like to think that makes me a seasoned veteran at this building a career thing.
