It will not be the same. It is a pity for you to be removed from that ability. The risk of spending time on the roofs is minimal, but still there. If you ever feel the need to try it, I can carry you up to the roof. I spend a lot of time up there.

The sky is beautiful at night. I remember looking up at the stars in Iraq back when I was younger. It was oddly comforting. It felt somehow like I was still at home despite being so far from it.

Iraq? I remember... [Stops. She remembers. Just a tiny bit- not much to go off of- she isn't quite sure of it and she wonders if she's making it up. Every so often, it happens.] Yeah. Home. A sky's a sky, after all.

Even though the world is huge, that one sky covers everything. It makes it seem smaller. Closer to "home", if there can be such a thing.

[Shift.] Mm-mm... Not there. It's just, talking about it like that reminded me. Um, I think I was thinking of a place called Tunisia. Maybe. I might be wrong.

[A pause while he considered it.]

Tunisia is in Africa. A good part of it is covered by the Sahara Desert, which isn't saying much, since that covers most of Northern Africa. Is that the place you're thinking of?

That's right. A little while ago, I did some reading about the place. It's not all that large a country.

[Pause.]

I'm told I was born there.

You don't remember it? Were you taken from it?

Yeah. I was a kid, I guess. Sometimes I remember tiny parts. Never much, though.

I was born in America but raised in England. Until I went back, I remembered absolutely nothing about the country I was born in. I felt utterly nothing for it. I wonder what you will feel, should you ever return. Perhaps more, since you remember it.

[He sounded rather thoughtful, as if he was talking more to himself.]

[Hesitant.] I don't think I should go back there, ever.

I don't have any preferences or beliefs when it comes to countries.

It hardly matters. They are all the same, in the end. The geography changes, but people do not.
