[Light's power is reversed as of the beginning of this event, though he isn't aware of this. This means that he'll have to obey orders that he's given by anyone over audio or video. Orders that Light doesn't want to obey won't work, so although he's being wordy orders to shut up, for instance, won't work so well. He likes talking, okay? If you want to talk plotting with this power and having him do something in particular just let me know, as I haven't any plans so far. ♥ ]
People in this city are so inherently selfish. They want what they want, and they'll do anything to get it, nevermind the harm that they inflict on others in the meantime. Last night was a display of childishness that's becoming familiar here--people on the network - children - exposed to torture and murder, without thought or hesitation. And for the victim--Why? To save another murderer, one who's been responsible for similar, brutal behaviour. Finally, when someone has got what they deserve, the dark side of newcomers once more rears its head to take back its own at any cost.
But the ones that did this aren't the only monsters. Some of you seem to think you're above the system too, and free to do as you please just because you share a common enemy with the law, or even because you disagree with its limits. You are just as repulsive as the people you hunt. I know, it's just hilarious to hear this from me.
Tell me, though. What is justice? We as newcomers seem to believe ourselves above it. The city acts on unlawfulness and we struggle and fight against the process the whole way. Contradictorily, we also allow our own to enact petty revenge against people, we work above the police to capture our own criminals and inevitably that results in contamination of evidence, even the death of the criminals.
Some of you believe this is justifiable, but you never draw the line. I ask you: where does what you do become any more acceptable than the things these criminals have done? Some of you even put the responsibility for crossing that line knowingly into the hands of others. Why? To have your way with the law. To be above rebuke, above justice. Your hands are as dirty as anyone's, and trust me, I know; my hands too are bloodied enough. You don't need to remind me.
Now I know you all have a very small attention span, so listen up, it's a very simple concept: the use of violence does not justify the use of violence. This is the real world, and 'an eye for an eye' doesn't work here.
[Light clicks off the audio, but a moment later the feed comes back--with video this time. He looks coldly down into the NV for a moment, then the video image is flicked over to glaring black on white. Briefly the image distorts, then sharpens again. Kira is written in stylised font in place of video, and it ought to be familiar to many.]
As of last night, my time is up. This little facade has been fun, but it's over.
