And you said it was like fire around the brim

Who: Axel, Xion
When: Tuesday evening
Where: Sector 4
Summary: Axel and Xion meet, and Axel remembers
Warnings: None

The sun was beginning to set, but Axel was in no hurry to rush home.

He'd gone all the way to the docks that day, as though to ascertain for himself that there really was no way off the island. The empty harbors and inlets seemed to exist only to make it clear how cut off they were from the rest of this world, the sea stretching on bleak and gray under a cloudy sky. From there he'd paced through the slums until the sight of them depressed even him, and ended up in Sector 4 after a quick warp, close to where Roxas lived. He thought about going to say hello, but even though he and Roxas were unmistakably friends again, that didn't make him any more sure of how he might be received in that house.

In any case, the shadows were lengthening; the siren would announce itself in just a few more minutes. A warm weight in his hood reminded him that Winner had come along while he wandered, mostly clinging to his shoulder but now napping in his cowl as though in a hammock. He didn't want to risk the kitten being hurt. Though summoning a dark corridor would get him home quickly enough, if anything should happen.

A pounding headache struck him suddenly, and a wave of dizziness made him almost stagger. It was as though he'd been out under a hot sun for too long, only it came all at once. Bewildered, he raised a hand to his aching head, turning--and there was a small figure in a black coat standing at the edge of the street, where he hadn't seen it. "R-Roxas?"
