The more someone studies religion, the more likely they are to become atheist or agnostic. That could also account for the higher scores in that quarter.

interestingly, (although perhaps not surprisingly) the 2nd best scores on the exams (so close that statistically they may as well be the same) were from Jews.

Most non-religious people tend to know more about religious doctrine than the dittoheads that subscribe to it.

This muslim convert I worked with had no idea what the "12th Imam" was. Yeah, he's a recent convert. But not knowing that is like a new Christian not knowing who Jesus is. :)

Most people I know are apatheistic, and don't know religious law or doctrine because they don't care. The survey is really about how many care enough to know.
