OOC: This takes place during the Hanami gathering, when Palmon and Hawkmon break from the group. ^_^
Palmon waved at the others. "We’ll be back soon!"
She saw the bus stop right beside the road. "Hawkmon, we should probably take the bus back since its right there!"
Hawkmon nodded and decided it would probably be faster. "Let's take it then! We don't want everyone to wait for their food." He took Palmon's arm and quickly walked over to the stop as fast as their legs could carry them.
He could fly them if it was necessary, but Palmon seemed to know how to use this transportation so he trusted her.
The bus arrived a few minutes later. "The bus driver knows us so we should be fine." Palmon explained, giving a friendly wave to the bus driver.
"Nice and easy." Palmon said happily.
"Wow," Hawkmon was impressed. The heavy doors and the steam sound gave him the jitters but, well… He had to be learn this! Maybe he could start using this way to visit everyone when Miyako-san was busy.
"Uhm..." Hawkmon eyed a pair of rowdy boys in the back of the bus as they looked for some seats. "This is the first time I've been on the bus! Do you know the route?"
"Yep!" Palmon replied. "It goes for a while at first, Mimi and I usually sleep, talk or read. Then the bus driver announces some name and that's when we get off!"
"What's the name?" Hawkmon asked politely. These seats looked to be kind of hard and he bet his legs wouldn't even hang over. It was kind of intimidating.
"The station is Koenji." Palmon answered. "It takes about 20 minutes or 25, but usually we don't notice the time pass." Palmon led Hawkmon to the back, where they usually sat.
The bird digimon really didn't like the look of those teenagers.
"O-Okay.. I'll keep an ear out." He took a seat and reached to give Palmon a hand.
Palmon saw Hawkmon looking a little uneasy. "Are you alright?" She asked quietly.
"Yes, it's just-" Hawkmon didn't want Palmon to worry. But sometimes humans weren't very accepting of Digimon. Mantarou-san, Miyako-san's brother, was testament to that. Even if he knew Digimon didn’t mean harm, t was too strange still, too foreign for some people to feel safe.
"Heeeeeey, what do we have here?" One of the scummy guys wearing a bandana stepped forward, reaching out with one fingerless-gloved hand. "Little monsters!"
"Aren't those them Digi-Monsters things? Aren't so scary!" The other boy with highly bleached hair laughed.
Palmon took a step back. "Uh--uuum...." This has never happened before. What should she do? Palmon gave Hawkmon a very soft whisper. "What should we do? We can't attack on the bus!"
One of the guys looked down at them. "Look, little leaves..." he gave a smirk, and then pulled on it.
"Ouch!" Palmon cried.
Hawkmon wasn't sure what the best thing to do was. He didn't want to hurt these hoodlums, but then again, they could seriously hurt Palmon and him if they just sat and did nothing. He saw red when the bandana-clad one pulled on Palmon’s petals.
"Now.. Now look here! We're just riding this bus like everyone else. There's no need to start trouble."
The two street punks looked at each other with mega smirks.
Bleach boy reached into his pocket and Hawkmon nearly jumped as he pulled out a package of what looked like biscuits.
"Polly wanna cracker? Huh? HAHA!" The two cackled making other patrons of the bus look at them in disdain.
"Hey, dude, lookat dis one." He pointed to Palmon. "Ewww talk about the need for weed killer."
Palmon didn't want to shock everyone by using one of her attacks, perhaps there was a way to get those street punks off the bus.
"Uh-" Palmon started to run towards the front of the bus nudging Hawkmon to follow.
Hawkmon wanted to follow Palmon, he did, but that comment went a bit too far.
"Now that was uncalled for..!" He stood his ground, feathers ruffling in anger. The bus went over a pothole or something and Hawkmon stumbled, falling down.
Bleached hair laughed and pointed, throwing the crackers all over Hawkmon. "Open up!!"
Palmon feared what might happen to the bus. "Hawkmon, get them off the bus and we'll deal with them when we're off!" Palmon tried to say. "We don't want the bus to roll over!"
Hawkmon clamped his beak in determination, brushing off the crumbs stuck to his feathers. He heard Palmon's order and nodded.
"You, You scoundrels! You asked for it!"
The two teens laughed and by now a few other passengers were getting up and yelling for them the leave. Hawkmon didn't know if it was directed at him and Palmon or the disrupted teens but he didn't want to find out.
"Next stop's ours, getting off?" He quickly ran to the rear and tackled one of them behind the knees, then flew up and caught the bleached boy's baggy jacket in his beak.
"4 to get off!" Hawkmon called to Palmon and the bus driver through a mouthful of gross denim.
The two hoodlums yelled in outrage.
Following them off the bus, the hoodlums were clenching their teeth and about to kick the two Digimon. Palmon gave Hawkmon a wink. "Now, we may show those punks who needs a cracker!"
The street punks were coming closer. "You little monsters are dead!"
"Hawkmon, how about lifting me up so I can attack them?" Palmon was ready to shut those punks up.
"With pleasure, Palmon!" Hawkmon flew behind his friend and hooked his feet under her arms so that he could fly her up and get a good yet safe shot at the two guys.
The punks' eyes popped out at the retaliating digimon and they hugged each other for dear life.
"He-hey waitaminute!! Them's gonna---"
Palmon shot her long vines out. "Poison Ivy!!!" She cried.
The two punks were knocked back, which they did not realize was a garbage can. "Oh boy, that was a great shot! Great work Hawkmon!" Palmon smiled.
The punks lifted their heads from the garbage can with lettuce all over their heads and clothes. "WHA--I Didn't know.." They didn't get a chance to say anything before the garbage truck came and shoved them into the van.
"That's the end of them!" Palmon gave Hawkmon a hi-five.
"Excellent team work, if I do say so myself." Hawkmon beamed. He hadn't stretched his wings like that in a long time.
He noticed they were in a part of town that he didn't recognize. "Uh oh... Palmon- do you think there is another bus station nearby? I don't know about you but I don't think I want to use the bus anymore." He shook his head quickly.
"Indeed, we make a great team!" Palmon exclaimed. "But you're right about the bus!" Palmon nodded. "That was the worst time, but now I'm not too sure where we are!" Palmon looked very lost.
Hawkon put his claw to his beak in thought. A bird's eye view would definitely be an advantage in this situation. Though being able to digivolve would make it easier. He'd have to just tough it out and then hope there was something to eat so he could get his strength back up at Mimi-san's home.
"Palmon, if I flew us would you be able to recognize your apartment? You can put your vines around my neck."
Palmon nodded. "I think that would be easiest! Would I be too heavy for you though? I don't want to wear you out!" Palmon answered.
"No girl is too heavy!" Hawkmon saluted and bowed so she could grab on easier. "Let's go!"
I knew I shouldn't have eaten all those chocolates! Palmon thought! "Alright, let’s go then!"
"Up we go!" Hawkmon cheered, happy to get into air. The bus had been way too much of a hassle, plus he had a feeling they were closer to Mimi-san's apartment, so he'd be fine. He hoped.
They flew by many sights until he managed to get up high enough to see into the windows of high rises.
"Which way?" He shouted over the wind.
Palmon looked around to see if there's anything familiar. It was the first time she had seen such beautiful sight from above, the only problem was she couldn't recognize it from this view.
"Um, I think, maybe..." Palmon thought hard. Which way? "How about- let’s go straight!" Palmon finally answered.
"Ok, you're the boss!" Hawkmon replied, flapping his wings. Sometimes he forgot how pretty the human world could be. Although he'd always think that the Digital World was the most beautiful.
"If we get lost, I hold no responsibility!" Palmon joked. She saw some wonderful sights, buildings, houses, trees, they seemed so small from this distance.
Hawkmon was starting to sweat; Palmon was getting a bit heavy. If they did get lost they'd have to go by foot, or even bus again, and well--
"Oh!" He spotted a familiar tree he'd roosted in when Miyako-san had gone to visit Mimi-san. "That way!" He turned left, curving around the buildings that would've taken a longer time had they been in the traffic.
"Can we get in through the window or do we go through the door?"
Palmon recognized that place too! A few times Palmon had seen that. "We should be able to go through the window!" Palmon remembered that one window was always open so Palmon could sneak in.
"Excellent!" Hawkmon felt renewed vigor and soared onward, finally Mimi-san and Palmon's apartment complex came into view.
"Coming in for a landing, all arms hold on tightly please!" He chirped, then blushed slightly. He flew passed a few open windows, looking in, hoping to spot the telltale style of the one they were looking for. "Shout if you see it!"
Palmon felt a rush of that funny feeling when she was going very fast. "Wow, I would love to fly all the time!" Palmon chirped, happy that she had such a wonderful experience.
"I see it there!" Palmon pointed. "Over there!"
Hawkmon craned his neck and his blue eyes sparkled in recognition. "Alright - 3, 2, 1, hold on...!" They flew fast and then suddenly he slowed tremendously, stopping to touch down on the windowsill. The cute curtains tickled him as he squeezed through making sure not to bump Palmon's head.
Palmon loved moving so fast through the wind. "Oh we've made it!" Palmon said in relief. "I hope we're not going to be too late. Now let’s see, where did Mimi put the chopsticks?" Palmon looked around the house. "I think they are very easily recognizable! Hawkmon, will you help me look for them?" Palmon asked.
"Sure," He huffed, trying to hide the fact that he was about ready to take a nap. A long nap. "I'll.. huff just look over huff... over here!" He hopped over to the front of the apartment, wondering if they'd packed the chopsticks and left them by the door.
Palmon saw Hawkmon almost short of breath. "Actually, you should rest, I will check Mimi's room." Palmon just realized Hawkmon may be flying them both back, he'll be too tired.
"O-Oh Alright." Hawkmon conceded, taking a seat at the table. "Why are these chopsticks so special, Palmon? Is it some sort of tradition?"
Palmon remembered how long it took to choose those chopsticks. "Mimi had very gorgeous sets of sakura-colored pink chopsticks for everyone!" Palmon explained. "I think she especially wanted these for the Hanami!"
Palmon continue to search, but they didn't seem to appear anywhere.
"Wow that sounds sweet!" Hawkmon smiled. "I always enjoy these get-togethers. I can't wait to try some of everyone's treats they've brought." His stomach grumbled and he clasped it in embarrassment.
Palmon heard poor Hawkmon's grumbling stomach. "Have some food first, or else you won't make it back!" Palmon gave Hawkmon some food around the house.
Hawkmon blushed at Palmon's hospitality. He didn't want to seem a burden. After all, it was his idea to fly them there!
"Maybe they're in the cupboard?"
Palmon took a look in the cupboard. "I don't see it here." Palmon tried to think where Mimi may have put them. She looked a little more inside the cupboards. "Oh, wait... I think I see something! It's --- " Palmon tried to squeeze herself inside. "I SEE IT! They're all in here! I wonder what they are doing inside this cupboard" Palmon said happily.
Grabbing the chopsticks, Palmon attempted to come out of the cupboard, but she couldn't move. "Hawwwkkk-monnnn...help! I can't get out!"
Surprised at Palmon's shout, Hawkmon dropped his food and found the other digimon in an interesting position.
"oh.. Oh heavens!" Hawkmon jumped up on the counter and opened the adjacent cupboard so that he could see Palmon's face.
"Hmm.. can you wiggle out?"
"I tried! But this wood thing beside me is making me stuck! Can you try pulling me out?" Palmon called from inside.
Hawkmon nodded and rubbed his wigs together then blushed, not sure where to hold Palmon.
"Uhm..." He fidgeted and then hugged her around the middle. "Okay here goes! Let me know if it hurts." He braced his feet against the counter and pulled.
Palmon managed to grab those chopsticks. She wasn't going to let all of that be for nothing! "I think we're almost there!" Palmon suddenly burst into giggles. "Hahahaa, that tickles!"
Hawkmon jumped in surprise. "Tickles..?" He looked down and realized that it was probably his feathers.
"Sorry Palmon! One more time. Ready? Pullll!" He kicked off of the counter and Palmon came out of the cupboard with a pop, the momentum making them fall to the floor.
Hawkmon's eyes were swirling around in his head. "ooooh.."
Palmon felt so happy to be out of that confined space.
"We did it! You got me out! For a sec I thought someone would have to chop down that cupboard!" Palmon said almost jumping. "Excellent team work once again!"
Palmon had the chopsticks in her hands. "Oh, what a day! Think we're ready to head back now? Or do you need more rest?"
"I agree." Hawkmon smiled as the little Palmons and chopsticks circling his head disappeared. "Let's go back or we'll miss everything."
"Okay, we should go then!" Palmon put the chopsticks in a little bag and carried it with her. She didn't want anything to happen to them!
Palmon looked at that window. "Oh boy, if I keep eating the way I have, I soon wouldn't fit through there! Ready to go Hawkmon?"
"Ready when you are." He bowed so she could get settled into a good position on his back. "I'm pretty sure you don't eat as many sweets as Miyako-san does. You know she has such a big tooth for desserts. Not as bad as Amardimon, but close!"
Palmon was looking forward to the flight again, but poor Hawkmon, must be tiring for him. "Oh sweets? I eat lots sometimes, but I am trying to cut down" Palmon said in a cheeky voice.
Hawkmon sweat dropped. "I didn't mean that you weigh a lot!" The bird digimon got up on the window ledge and prepared for flight. "Okay, hold on tight. Miyako-san can't stay out of trouble for long you know." He chuckled and shifted her weight.
"Take off!" He jumped out of the window without warning.
"And Mimi, we are coming with those chopsticks!" Palmon said as they shot across the sky.
