Anyway, Apple has a bit of a track record with things like that. They build really great stuff that looks the business, but then they clap out relatively soon and they cost much more to repair than they do to just buy a new one.
My 'net connection is very slow otherwise I'd try and hunt down this article I found written on a geeky 'net 'zine called "Who designed this crap?" It's by an apparently very well respected designer and what he does is lay into what he sees as the general stupidity/incompetence/deliberate bastardness that he sees around him.
I only remember the title, as above, so maybe you could look it up? He did a bit about the IPod, and how they constantlytry an get you to "upgrade"-apparently it's anice little moneyspnner of a racket they've got going on.
