After putting $53 of gas into my little car's 12-gallon tank, I'm really considering buying a motorcycle. Of course with living on one income starting in a month, it probably won't happen for a while, but I'm still looking around. I was thinking of something like a used Honda Rebel. It gets around 70mpg and I can ride it on the interstate (at least ( Read more... )

Motorcycle safety foundation class.

It used to also qualify as passing your driver's license exam, which is a fine thing.

You could also look into a Scooter. :-)

I don't want a scooter because I have to travel up 400 to go to the office (not every day thankfully)

A friend of mine told me about Honda's motorcycle safety classes, I dont have the information handy though.

Would YOU drive a scooter anywhere the speed limit was greater than 45? hahaha

I dont think I'd get one even if I just stayed intown all the time.

Thanks for the link. Taking the class is definitely required as far as I'm concerned. I've never ridden a motorcycle before (semi-drunken rides around the block on my neighbor's toy-sized 50 excluded ;) which is why I was thinking of something smaller to start.

My first bike was a dual. If you want to screw around off road a used little 250 dual bike would be fine.

Do the math, you might actually come out a few bucks richer each month when you compare gas bill to motorcycle payments & extra insurance.

Oh theres no doubt in my mind that a motorcycle would pay for itself eventually compared to my current situation. My car gets 20mpg, takes premium gas, tires cost $200 each, and might last 15-20k miles. Its not a cheap car to own even after its paid off.
