When Remus awoke, he was shocked to feel a warm wetness on his cheek. At first he worried it was the sting of a new wound, but was abruptly proven wrong when a bumpy tongue slobbered over his left eye. "Padfoot," he croaked, trying not to further damage his ribs by laughing. It was usually so lonely to wake up after the moon sticky with blood and sweat, but today he was stifling a grin, and it was amazing. Remus reached over shakily and patted his friend on his shaggy head. Then he stared through the torn curtains and counted his newfound blessings.
