Prompt: Ten Favorite Childhood Memories, from justprompts.

So. You want ten favorite childhood memories. I can't guarantee that there are that many, but I'll see what I can do.

1. The day I received my Hogwarts letter. We'd all known it would happen, of course, but it was a wonderful day anyway, the time I received my first owl post. Then I saw the crest on the envelope and knew -- I had a way out of my parents' house.

2. Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross, the first year. Well, any year, really. The train to school. Where I would be out of my parents' house for a full nine months (except for going home for Christmas, which was actually a tolerable time of year).

3. The Sorting Hat putting me in Gryffindor, for three reasons. One, the look on Narcissa's face at such an outrage; two, the smile on Andromeda's face because she knew what it meant; three, the fact that it was sure to annoy my parents.

4. The moment I realized that I had found lifelong friends. (James and Remus, you're the best friends I could ask for. Peter, you can go die in a fire, or, preferably, a cell in Azkaban, which is the fate you consigned me to.)

5. The look on Remus' face when we told him we'd figured out his secret and were still going to be friends with him anyway, and why hadn't he told us in the first place, the git?

6. The way everyone in the family threw a fit when they found that Andromeda had run off and married Ted. Beyond that, the knowledge that I'd helped them do it, and the rest of the family had no idea.

7. That day later the same summer, when we'd all been shopping for the next year's school supplies (with Regulus pouting because he wanted to go to school too, and couldn't yet) and we came across Andromeda and Ted in Diagon Alley, who were preparing to start their Auror training, and everyone pretended not to know each other, even though we were all in the same shop. No one in the family still had any idea that I knew Ted at all or that I'd had anything to do with their elopement. (I personally think that she was showing off just a little for the purpose of annoying them further.)

8. Four words: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs.

9. The day I told my mother I was leaving her house and moving in with the Potters. She was upset for awhile, because it would make the family Look Bad and What Would Everyone Else Think, but from what I heard later, it released a lot of tension in the house and made things more pleasant (if they could be called pleasant at all) for everyone. It certainly made life more pleasant for me.

10. I left Muggle posters permanently stuck on the walls of my room when I moved out. It was one final thumbing of my nose at my parents. (Though I fear this is what gave my mother the idea to do something similar with her horrible portrait as soon as she found out I would inherit the house after all.)
