In-progress (and very late) log with Isabel

Who: Isabel (evil_vanquisher) and Lepant (sirlepant)
When: Valentine's Day
Where: Café
What: That non-romantic date thingie

It had been a long and most curious experience, and Isabel was curious to see how it'd finish. She originally signed up for the "blind date" experience to make acquaintances with other residents at the castle, and thus far it had been an overall pleasant event. She sat with her legs crossed at the cafe awaiting her final companion, trying to guess what was in store.

Lepant, on the other hand, found out about these dates only at the last minute. It was bizarre to think of having a date on Valentine's Day and expect them not to be romantic, but Eileen had assured him that they were only to 'get us out more'. Regardless, whatever pleasant mood he had earlier in the day had since faded as he left his room and made his way to the predetermined location. Entering the café, he quickly spotted the table he was assumed he was meant to go to.
At least the date would result in him having a new acquaintance, he reasoned, as he went to meet the red-haired woman that was already seated at the table. "Excuse me, miss," he started as he stopped beside the chair opposite hers. "Are you also participating in these blind dates?" he asked to confirm before taking the seat.

Hn. He looked familiar, but she couldn't place a name to his face. "Indeed, I am," Isabel held up the card with the time and date listed to confirm. "I'm not sure we've met before. I am Isabel of the Maximillian Knights; it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance," she held out her hand in greeting.

'Isabel of the Maximillian Knights,' he repeated to himself. It was familiar, though he couldn't remember where he had heard of the woman or her order before. Not dwelling on it, he took her hand. "Likewise," he returned as he shook her hand. "I'm Lepant. Former general in the Liberation Army," adding the title only for the fact she gave her own.

"Another general," she mused, leaning back in her chair. "Most curious. I must warn you, small talk is not my strong point," Isabel mentally winced, remembering a few painful moments of discussion during her last date.

He wasn't sure what was meant by her remark on his previous status, but decided against inquiring. Rather, he nodded to her next words. "And I've already eaten," he replied. "If you'd rather do something else, it's fine by me."

"Would you like to walk? I find it tiresome to sit still for so long, and I confess I really am not hungry either," she added, standing up. "I should like to hear more about your time as a general--I find it very fascinating, not to pry, that is."

"It's no trouble," he assured her as he left the table. "But I won't be able to tell you much," he admitted, "I was only able to serve a few months before my wife and I arrived here. You would be able to find out more in the library." There was something shameful in having to admit that, he recognised, but the subject could be dropped as easily as it had been brought up. "I'm interested in knowing more about your order; it sounds familiar to me."

"The Maximillian Knights? I would be admittedly discouraged had you not heard of them, I confess," she stretched her arms back as they paced away from the cafe. "We fight for justice and honor--my father served under the noble Maximillian until they were disbanded... it nearly broke my poor father."

Lepant kept his head straight, looking before him rather than down to Isabel. "I see," he responded. Now he regretted further that he truly could not place where he had heard of them before. "A noble group. It's regrettable that such a company should be disbanded." Given the emotional attachment the other had to the Knights, Lepant didn't want to say any more on it lest the date turn sour.

"Having not been an actual member of the original Maximillian Knights, I only saw how it affected my father. But being an individual follower, along with Mathias of course, has allowed me to take a more personal approach to promoting our cause," Isabel pondered for a moment. "Have you heard of an individual named Fred? I've had several people refer to his name when I tell them about the Maximillian Knights, but I am unfamiliar with him."

"I'm unfamiliar with him as well," he replied, the name meaning nothing to him. However, he then remembered when he had heard of the Knights before. "I've met Sir Mathias before, though I've never spoken to him at length. Taking an individual approach may be best," he added. "You seem very devoted to the cause."
