fucking hell

I try really, really hard to believe the best about people... and it seems like it gets harder all the time. How can the world be so fundamentally unjust? I tell you, one of these days I'm not going to be able to be optimistic about things anymore, and that's going to be a rough, rough day.

Believing the best about people sets you up to not have your expectations met... you don't have to be a total pessimist, but setting your expectations somewhere in the middle -- at "no one's perfect" -- will keep you from being perpetually disappointed and will let people surprise you.

And if you're talking about who I think you are, she's already established as not taking other people's concerns/efforts into account, so to me she is just performing in line with your previous experience.

Actually, if I remember rightly, this post was in response to Tom Daschle's tax issues getting as much or more scrutiny than warrantless wiretaps, signing statements, secret prisons, bailout bonuses, et cetera.

I don't expect people to be perfect, but I do expect them to not be evil.
