summary of my day, bullet format

Sep 26, 2008 19:52

  • start of work - go to different campus.
  • reason for going to other campus nullified: user not present.  return to desk.
  • email borked.
  • troubleshoot said bork. confusion ensues.
  • bork resolved by mike. from home, no less.
  • IM from wife: call from HVAC tech to work on AC was missed.  Appointment thus missed.  Will have to reschedule.  (anger level indicator upgraded to "Vesuvius").
  • Meeting with users.
  • Return from meeting to update on HVAC/AC: tech contacted, en route to house.   (anger level indicator downgraded to "Highely Irritable")
  • More user requests.  (nothig of consequence, but anger level indicators destabilizing)
  • Lunch.
  • Call during lunch from wife w/ HVAT tech.  Details of issue and repair.  $$$ discuessed.  Far more than I expected and/or feared.  repairs ensue.
  • Lunch resumes
  • Politics discussed (anger level indicator fluctuates wildly)
  • Return to work.
  • "Crisis" at other campus rears it's head.   (please note the quotation around "crisis")
  • Discover that urgently needed equipment ordered a week ago only just shipped yesterday (despite assurances otherwise).
  • Dump two projects, push estimated completion date to middle of next week at best.
  • Call from wife that AC is not actually pushing cooled air through house.   Respond angrily (and inappropriately) to her.  Unable to troubleshoot or assist.   Plan is put in motion to try to get HVAC tech back out tonight.
  • Rapidly pack up equipment for trip to other campus (in lieu of planned work).
  • TXT from wife that HVAC tech will be back out, but when I am home (wife is heading to mountains for the weekend).
  • Arrive at campus, unload equpment.  Solve "urgent" problem.  Begin to deliver gear.
  • Discover that said gear is not, in fact, setup correctly.   workstudy missed several things.  Commence with correcting said oversights.
  • Corrections are far more time consuming that warranted.
  • Work.
  • Wait.
  • Work.
  • Contacted by contractor on pending issue.  Remotely connect to primary network to make changes & provide info.
  • Await response from contractor on said issue.
  • Wait some more.
  • repeat.
  • Leave.  Head homewards
  • Pick up Cam from daycare.  First time picking him up (it's only day 2).  Totally screw up entry procedure to facility.  Reluctantly ask receptionist to be let in, etc.
  • Take Cam home.
  • Meet HVAT tech at home, arriving only minutes before he.
  • Bring Cam in, let tech in house / yard, begin corralling / entertaining /  distracting Cam.
  • Tech solves problem (anger level indicators downgraded to "just sligntly tense").
  • Tech discusses AC issue further.  Offers of "total unit replacement" discussed.  Pucker factor raised to, oh, 8.5 or so.
  • Tech departs.
  • Feed Cam.  Cam disagrees, and invokes a revolt / hunger strike.
  • Try, in vain, to get Cam to eat for a while.  Abandon plan.
  • Play / console Cam as needed.  Change his clothes, get him some milk, begin bed-time procedure early.
  • Place Cam in bed.  No fight (anger indicator levels downgraded to "meh").
  • Clean up kitchen.
  • Beer

  • Re-read the above list and ask myself "how many beers did you just drink?"
