Man, that looks like such a wonderful way to travel. Stately, elegant, and yet high-tech as well. It's like a steampunk's dream. I'm frankly surprised there isn't some genre of steampunk zeppelin slash porn.
I'd love to fly by dirigible. It looks like an amazing way to travel.
It's sad that these things have gone away. The Hindenburg was the first of its kind that tried using a different reflector agent on its canvas. Unfortunately, that agent was rocket fuel. That pretty much screwed us for this form of transportation-that and maybe the democratisation of aircraft. I suppose 500 mph is a bit more efficient with people's time than 80 mph.
I could see their return not as transportation for people (who always seem in a hurry), but goods. I've seen a few hybrid proposals for massive cargo airplanes made lighter with gas.
Now imagine covering the upper surface of one of these things with solar panels to power the propellers. Combine that with a hybrid wind/solar powered cargo ship and you have a complete nearly petrol-free system: ships from shore to shore, electric trains inland, and solar blimps where train lines don't run.

Oh - and I apologize for the weather too. But I swear it's lovely from June 1 through November 1.
