Aw, I like the Dune movie. Admittedly it could be better.
I wish I'd never watched the LotR movies as they destroyed my internal images and were not better.
I'll skip the Hobbit movie for this reason. My internal images of Riddles in the Dark are old and precious (no pun intended) and I don't need to see someone elses.
I saw the Dune movie before reading the book, didn't really uderstan it, then watched it again and quite liked it. I think sometimes it's easier if you watch the film first. Although I watched Highlanader II before Highlander so never developed the deep hatred towards II that most people have (Although it's a masterpiece compared with Highlander V)
I agree - images from Jacksopn's LOTR have got all muddled up with my childhood images, which were themselves muddled with the Bakshi version. I actually found his mixed live action / animated orcs quite frightening at the age of 8.
Ooh! This post just made my day. I had a read a tiny bit about this version, but not to the depth that you provided. Thanks!
I think that Lynch's version made some great choices and some terrible ones. I am glad that there is a version out there, but that I did not see it until I have read Dune multiple times, because the movie did not change my version, but only added to the visuals in my head.
i was very sad when i first read about the aborted dune interpretation. especially given my devotion to dune.
i think i am one of those rare people that believe that the alan smithee version of dune was superior to the lynch version. i was also very disappointed by the visually stunning scifi remakes.
alas, i am afraid that it will never be made well.
