I don't think I could chose a favorite, but these are the ones I loved the most.

I've been wanting to read The Diving Bell & the Butterfly pretty badly. Blood Meridian is one of my favorite books ever...if you like that, I think you'll love The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

I love McCarthy. I've been dissuaded from reading the Road in the past because "it's too bleak," and was then pushed (by the same person/people) to read Suttree, Blood Meridian or Child of God which are also pretty bleak. So I wonder if by bleak they've meant deserted & windswept or joyless & dismal. If you recommend it, I'll certainly read it. I'd like to read the Border Trilogy this year or if it's too much for one year, over this year and next. McCarthy is a bit like my new Nabokov - I have to stretch his books out to have years of McCarthy ahead of me instead of plowing through them all. I also have to (finally) read the Grapes of Wrath this year. Hold me to it.

What are you reading?

Right now I'm rotating between Naked (Sedaris) and rereading Grapes of Wrath. It's a good balance for me right now.

I can't wait for you to read Grapes of Wrath - I want to hear how it affected you!

And by bleak, I would definitely say the former - deserted & windswept. But so beautifully written...I adore The Road.
