Bad dream

I never know that I'm dreaming when I'm dreaming. That usually makes bad dreams freakier for me, because for a little while after I wake up, I still think that they're true. It usually takes a while for me to get over it. It's bad enough if it's a dream about someone trying to to do something to me, but this one was worse.

I dreamed that I'd killed somebody - and just for a joke. I had several people visiting my house, people I was acquainted with but didn't know very well, and one of the guys had done something to mildly annoy me. "Hey, wouldn't it be funny if I just went out there and killed him?" I remember thinking in the dream. So I killed the guy. Bloodily (although I don't clearly remember that part; it was one of those dream things where you know what happened, but don't see it played out in a narrative fashion.)

The rest of the dream was spent fending off the other people visiting me (who were understandably wondering where the third guy had gotten to) and trying to hide the evidence. The scariest part of the dream wasn't the murder; it was running around trying to hide/get rid of all the evidence and knowing that if I didn't hide it well enough, I'd wind up in prison. And the fact that one particular piece of evidence seemed to keep coming back even after I'd taken it out and gotten rid of it.

So my first few moments of consciousness after waking up were pretty freaky. I was lying there half awake worrying about how I was going to get rid of this magically reappearing piece of evidence, and then finally I woke up all the way and realized that I didn't know the guy in the dream and I hadn't actually killed anybody. But still, it seems to be staying with me; hopefully it'll fade a bit after I've had breakfast and had time to finish waking up. I hope.... >.<
