I think it's fine, as long as you call yourself Polish-American and not Polish. When I stayed in the US for a year, it was in an area a lot of British people moved to in the 19th century, and I got very irritated with people claiming they were English.

English-American, rock on. Want to eat roast beef and send Mothering Sunday cards not Mother's Day cards? Go for it. But if your great great grandparents were the last people to be born in the UK, you are English-American, not English.

Keeping traditions is fine though. One of the most diligent keepers of Scots traditions I know is a New Zealander from Dunedin.

It sounds to me like you need to adopt a local Polish grandmother for your soon to be new child. Go spend some time in one of those stores and talk to people, tell them that you are of Polish decent, and want to know more about Poland. Make friends with someone who likes the idea of spoiling your little one when it arrives, and get a network of babysitters who will speak to the child in Polish and teach you a few more words.

No offense but our child will be exposed to 2 languages already, adding a third neither of us speaks is rather pointless and would only confuse him/her...

oh, I dunno... it might be fun to have baby speak a bit of Polish, if only in the form of "baby talk/vocab" from H & O... and from what I've read, 4 languages is the most an infant can successfully learn at a time.

heh! I had no problem as a child with 3 languages - its the best time to expose them and you will be amazed by how un-confused they will be! The baby-brain is like a sponge absorbing information. Its only adults that get confused. Seriously!
