I just finished watching the Bones episode called, "The Salt in the Wounds" and I gotta tell you, they looked at teen sex and our lack of sex ed/lack of teenage responsibility with a grace I never expected. And it didn't hit until the very end. The way Booth handled this 16 year old father of 4 (with 4 different girls)... I was impressed. As a ( Read more... )

You know, I was extremely affected by that scene, too - but I don't think I could have put it nearly as well as you did.

You're absolutely right. And that's one of the major issues of our time. That's also one of the major issues that strike some chords in those kids that sign up with Militias and terrorists - those people HAVE their "new myth". It's a bad, scary myth - but it's a direction. Meanwhile our kids have nothing much worth seeking after and they just sort of get older.

That's the third time I've heard someone talk about that episode. Apparently they really hit the nail on the head. I love the series overall, but won't see season 4 til it's out on DVD. :)

Oh! I'm not sure you mean you would rather wait to watch the season in order or not, but you can watch full, free episodes on Hulu.com. I don't get to see Bones in real time so I watch it on the net.

But of course, you may already know about hulu.com. I just discovered it last month. :-)

I guess there is no growing up if you buy into the whole messianic message.

I am listening to a book (that sounds weird) where the author systematically points out that the whole jesus story is wrapped with the myths of the Judiac Scriptures. His miracle working was not fact or even anything close to history. I digress, it is a good book. But the author, an Episcopalian Bishop no less, affirms my feelings that I cannot believe in a god that would have my intellect remain that of a child. Which is what one is if you just believe what you are told without rational questions that seem obvious to even the curious child.

There has to be a new myth, hero or method to show kids how to come of age. Anything is better than shut up and listen to this, or just figure it out on your own kid.

Maybe I will have a mid life crisis and dedicate my life to developing this new myth.

Peace
