in the end? in a high tension situation and he didn't friggon STOP WHEN THE COPS SAID STOP? what the fuck do people expect the cops to do anymore. it's sad that his own stupidity got him killed, as far as I'm concerned, but i can't fault the bobbies in this one. ESPECIALLY after last night's bombings in Egypt and Beirut.
It's the sort of situation where there is no perfect solution, I think. I'm reminded of an incident where a foreign exhange student was killed in the USA b/c he didn't know what "FREEZE" meant. He was on his way to a party and was cutting across someone's yard. The person saw him, said "Freeze" and when the boy didn't stop, he got shot and killed

I remember that case, the foreign exchange student. Very sad indeed :(
To be completely honest, and this is going to sound callous as hell, I would rather the police use excessive force on one person than have a subway car full of people get blown to bits. It's a horrible choice to have to make, I couldn't possibly be a police officer in these times.
It's very scary to think that he might not have known he was being chased. The articles I've read have said that he was wearing a big bulky coat (in July? and trust me, it gets hot in London in July, I've been there, especially down in the subway systems it's hot as friggin hell down there) and his actions were "suspicious". What does suspicious mean though?
I sincerely hope that they have some sort of evidence to back up their claims that he was a suspicious individual. Otherwise I couldn't imagine how the shooter/police officer could live with himself. I *hope* I'm never in a situation like that.
