(Why yes, this is copied from my Facebook page. ; )
1. My name would have been David if I had been a boy.
2. I was a major Fighting Illini fan growing up, until I decided to go to school at Indiana University.
3. I never learned how to ride a bicycle.
4. I joined the Bolingbrook Jayteens my freshman year of high school. A guy friend of mine who was a member invited me to a Jayteen pizza party and mentioned that the guy I had a major crush on at the time was going to be there. Both the guy I had a crush on and I (along with a couple of my other friends whom I had brought along) joined the chapter that day. That's how my involvement in the Jaycee movement began. (Nothing romantic ever happened with him and my crush died out, but we are still friends)
5. I didn't have my first real relationship until I was in college.
6. Steve Dahl was my next-door neighbor for a few years (including the year of Disco Demolition)
7. I once took a classified ad over the phone from Gary Cherone.
8. I was terribly shy as a child and am still somewhat shy. If I go to a party or some other large group event where I don't know many people, I'll be very quiet and keep to myself for a while, until I spot someone I know or warm up a bit.
9. I've been a Cubs fan as long as I can remember.
10. I am the one of the oldest of my generation on one side of my family and one of the youngest on the other.
11. Barney is the second Welsh Terrier I've had - I grew up with a female Welsh Terrier named Winnie. Before that, my family had an Airedale named Myshkin.
12. I wanted to be a shark researcher for a while when I was young. Sharks still fascinate me.
13. I am slightly obsessed with fantasy football. I've been playing since 2000. I joke that I could never get married on a Sunday during football season because I'd be checking scores and stats every three minutes during the ceremony. ; )
14. I had absolutely no interest in going to New York City until I applied for an ASME internship during the 1993-1994 school year. I applied after one of my journalism professors encouraged me to do so, but didn't think I'd even get through the internal competition to be one of the IU J-school nominees. I got the internship at Advertising Age, had one of the best summers of my life, and fell in love with the city. Now I try to go back every couple years.
15. I left college after 4 years without a degree. I worked for a few years, then went back to IU full-time in January 2001 (I was 27) and finally got my degree in December 2001. The second experience could not have been more different than the first. In one class, I was closer in age to the professor (6 years younger) than to the other students (7 years older). In that class, we were reading a book that was published in 1974 and the professor said "I think I am the only one here who was born when this book came out!" I kept my mouth shut. : )
16. I have a recurring dream that I'm in school and am about to take a final exam in a class that I haven't attended all semester. Sometimes, it's the last class I need before graduating. I never had this dream until after I graduated from college.
17. I love traveling and would like to do more of it. I want to see more of Europe and Australia in particular.
18. I like cheese and I like hamburgers. I do not like cheeseburgers.
19. I've always been a voracious reader and I read at a 7th grade level when I was in kindergarten.
20. My first car was a 1988 Acura Integra, a hand-me-down from my mom. The first car I ever bought was a 1997 Saturn SC1. I had that car until last year.
21. The day doesn't feel right if I don't read the newspaper first thing in the morning - the paper copy, spread out on the kitchen table.
22. I once appeared on the People's Court, in the crowd scenes on an episode. I happened to be in the Manhattan Mall at the time they taped those there and decided to join the crowd. I even got to comment on a case.
23. I don't wear much makeup at all, but I like having it. I also love perfume, bath, and body stuff. That's probably the girliest thing about me.
24. When I was a child, I didn't want to wear anything but dresses and skirts for a while. These days it's a rarity for me to wear a dress or a skirt.
25. Even though I am the least athletic person out there, I took a semester of fencing in college and was actually pretty good at it!
