Orson Scott Card's selection as the ALA/YALSA Margaret A. Edwards Award honoree for lifetime achievement as a young adult author.

No matter how good the work is, or even how much the work may fit the guidelines, you can't honour the person for something they are manifestly not doing.
I'd be much more comfortable if this were an award given to a specific work of Card's that deals with young people, like Ender's Game. Giving it to Card himself is not acceptable.
I had to figure out my own concept of the author vs. the author's works a very long time ago when I realised that the person who wrote some of my favourite poems - Ezra Pound - was a fascist.
