both/and

At the gym today I was lifting with my headphones on and watching folks in the mirror, which makes one feel like a detached observer if anything does. I was thinking about the fact that I always reuse the same paper towel to wipe down my equipment because it produces less waste which really matters to me, even if it is just a little thing.

Sometimes I feel silly about those little things

I know how you feel. Every time I fly, I end up stuffing the snack boxes and the tiny single-serving water bottles into my carry-on because I found out that they throw everything away and don't recycle the recyclables on airlines. The stewardess looked at me rather funny when I asked whether they recycled and upon finding out that they didn't, declined to give her my "garbage".

I think thats the way I started having to look at things as well. As long as I do the best I can in my daily life and treat people well that is enough.

I want to leave a mark, but I want to leave a mark like a chisel does in stone. The tool is not nearly as important as the sculptor.

Today's sermon at church was a both/and kind of sermon. It was about being Easter people in a Good Friday world. I think we're supposed to leave a mark for the better not for the worse. Conspicuous and unnecessary consummation that hurts God's creation is for the worse.

I also can't help but think about what we deserve from God vs. what we receive from God. We deserve to be seen as insignificant because factually we are, but to God who loving made and remakes us daily we are utterly important, this is the real grace and good news of Eastertime, that Christ died so that insignificant Meg and Brooke may have new life.
