Never judge a book by its cover

Shock. Gasp. It’s not a meme:P

I want to be an interior designer. I found a local school that gives a degree in that field. I also happen to work somewhere that does the whole tuition reimbursement thing. So…. I talked to my employers about it, was told to go to the school and get course information and then bring that back to them. So, I set up an appointment with the admissions lady and went in for “a chat”. While I was there she gave me the grand tour and talked about the school in general, how it was a private institution (informed me the standards and cost are higher than most schools, then she eyed me up and down, quite skeptical), how the learning process worked (is more hands on and less book work, said this as if it should reassure me), and explained about the various projects (kept asking “do you understand?” then giving a doubtful look). By the end of the tour I was getting piffy about being treated like an idiot. I start asking questions about the requirements and if any previous college credits were required. She tells me no, but there is an entrance exam I will have to take. Unless of course I know my ACT scores. If I received a 17 or higher in English and a 17 or higher in Math then I didn’t have to take the entrance exam. I told her I couldn’t remember my scores (was 6 years ago!) but since I graduated with honors, and took advanced and an advanced placement (college level course) along with those honors course, I was fairly sure I had good scores. She seemed doubtful and said that if I wanted, I could do to the board of education and get a copy of my high school transcript and that would have my scores. But since that cost five dollars, most people just take the entrance exam instead of wasting five dollars. Wasting? I told her I’d be going to the board right after I left there. And I did. I went to the board, saw my scores, got a copy, and took it back to the college. The lady opened it, looked at it, eyes bugged, jaw dropped, then she congratulated me: I didn’t have to take the entrance exam. No shit, Sherlock. I had a 24 in English and 18 in Math, just barely got by the Math one, but even that was more than she expected. See, you shouldn’t judge, you never know a person until you know them.

Anyway, that’s done. Now I’m just waiting on a meeting with my employers so I can give them the course info and see what they’ll pay for.
